Whilst at the Local Tessa Baan today my wife enquired as to how to get me a Yellow Book. It seems that we need to

Get my passport translated into Thai at the MFA.

Supply three one inch photos

Complete the application form ... they gave me one

Copy of Wifes ID

Copy of her Blue Book

Anyone know if there is a good chance that this info is probably correct ................. thanks

As said varies from place to place, but whilst getting your passport translated you may as well obtain a translation of your marriage certificate (if married overseas) just in case it was overlooked when asking for doco requirements. I was required to do so by Nong Prue Amphur in Chon Buri

My Ket also wanted a copy of my birth certificate showing my parents names. It is wise to determine a transliteration of the names before you go since this sometimes creates difficulties. Your list is all I needed with the addition of my birth certificate.

Yes I forget this. I was also asked for my birth certificate & as I didn't have it with me they were OK with my just giving the names verbally. Again varies from place to place

As well as the paperwork I was made to bring another Thai, in addition to the wife, to say that they knew me and that I lived where we said that I lived. Easy enough, just grabbed the wife's cousin! That was in Sattahip.

They discontinued the 30 baht health scheme for yellow tai ban holders. Also in Pattaya it is possible to get your passport translated by a translation company for 400 baht, perfectly acceptable at Nongprue Municipal Office

When did you hear that because I used it recently?

Injured my ankle and couldn't make it to my usual hospital so went to local Govt one.

Got excellent treatment by the way.

Asked at admin there and they told wifey anyone listed in the taabian baan is entitled to health care. They looked up my details as I lost my card last year and went ahead with the treatment.

What benefits are to be had by having yourself registered on the yellow book?

Can it for example be used in place of a residence certificate for things like drivers licence renewal?

The health care scheme would be very useful if it really is available, I used to have a Thai social security card when working when it ended we asked at the local Phuket SS office if I could pay to keep it active and they said no, so would be interested if anyone has applied for this in Phuket?

Thanks

Have a look at this thread. It is probably the most comprehensive on this topic.

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/156485-yellow-tabien-bahn/

FYI I was not allowed a Health Card when I got mine. Was told that is only when I get on a Blue House Registration Book and if I do not have a Social Security Card. Prakanong District Office.

I have heard that it is possible to pay to keep up the SS card after retiring or losing your job, so an earlier post saying this is not the case is quite surprising.

I was also refused the 30 Baht card when I applied after getting my Yellow Book. The Ket stated that this program was for Thia only. It would be interesting to know where a non Thai can get the 30 Baht card.

Intresting fact, the following is ironic seeing as the authorities seem to make it hard for foreigners to get them, turns out they are supposed to be issuing them anyway for all this census stuff, to every farang on a non-imm visa, owner or renting:

.

Civil Registration Act 2008:

Section 38. The district or local registrar shall issue a household registration for persons without Thai nationality having been permitted to stay temporarily and those having been giving leniency for temporary residence in the Thai Kingdom as a special case in accordance with law on immigration and the declaration of the Cabinet and their children born within the Thai Kingdom. In a case of permission of temporary residence overdue, the registrar shall immediately dispose of such persons

I went to the big Government office on Rattantibeth, Nonthaburi, woman there was great, all the things you have listed were required, however a translation of my passport was not required.

You can continue to pay SS but only if you have completed one year of payments, I pay my own every month, it is meant to be around 432 baht, but have been paying for a while and this year I have been told to pay 6 months at 240 and the other 6 months at 336baht.

Is this 30 baht card everyone is talking about a pink piece of paper the size of a credit card, with your name on it and other details, I think it can also be blue in colour.

If you are renting it is up to the owner if they wish you to get a yellow book, not the Government office. Also not many foreigners would know that they could get one whilst renting accommodation.

If you are referring to the yellow Tambien Ban; it's not difficult to obtain, you just have to follow the process. Also some people are unaware you can obtain one if you have a property rental/lease contract in your name.

No. The pink one is the social security card (at least mine is). My wife's 30 Baht card is actually the free universal health care card and is creamy yellow with gold trim.

I still have a yellow book that was obtained when I was married and living in the house that i paid for. Now living in a different town in rented accomodation and i was wondering if the same book can be altered to my current address or is no longer acceptable now I have moved and i would have to start the whole rigmarole again to get a new book.

Thanks
