Hi,

I am intending to possibly change my employment in thailand to a new company. i have a non-O (thai wife) visa and a work permit with my current company. if i change to a new employer, what will have have do do?

questions are:

- can my current work permit be transferred to a new employment? or do i have to return my current work permit at the termination of my current job and apply for a new wortk permit with the new employer?

- what will happen with my visa/ i have read, that' if i'd have a non-B visa, temrination of employment would also mean termination of the visa, as a non-B is issued ion reasons of business/employment, but would it be the same for a non-O visa? the underlying reason for my non-o is my marriage to my thai wife and that would not change. only the source of income would change.

any ideas? :)

If both jobs in same area and both employers are in agreement the new job could be added to current work permit in some case and then the original removed but almost everyone finds obtaining a new work permit the best option - that means you must cancel the old one when employment ends. As said your marriage 90 day or one year extension of stay will not be effected.

If you add a second employer to your WP (with both employers' consent), this can be done.

However in some areas Labour will not subsequently remove the first employer alone, plus will insist on you cancelling the WP and making a fresh WP application with the second employer alone.

Not my field but your visa or extention will not be affected.

The work permit is connected to your job so you will need another one.

Someone with more knowledge will be along soon.

thx, Lite Beer, that information is already very good for me to know...:)

i don't quite think that both employers will be in agreement, although both jobs would be in bangkok (different disctricts, though) so i guess i will have to go for a new work permit. but it's good to know that my visa extension would not be affected, so that buys me some time, just i case (until my next yearly visa extension).

i guess the new work permit application will follow current regulations and not any grandfatheres ones from my current work permit, is this correct?

ok,thx, important for me is only that my visa extention won't be affected. regarding the work permit, i already thought that most likely i'll have to do a new one.

Ok here's the deal:

need a letter from present comp.stating that you no longer work for them, that cancels your work vias(your comp. should know what you need)

after work visa canceled, you have to leave Thailand, that day, just cross the border ,get passport stamped, then you can re-enter Thailand

then get new comp to apply for new work permit.

Oh yes,you should go to immigration an get a stamp in you passport saying that you are going Laos or some were. and when come back into Thailand your "O" visa is still good,if no stamp from immigration ,you'll only get a 15 day stamp.

did this about 6 months ago,but I was on a retirement visa.

All's Good

You do not have to leave Thailand at end of employment if here on a 90 day visa entry or on an extension of stay for other than employment reasons.

as i have a non-o on reasons of supporting a thai wife and family, i think i should not have to leave...
