So in theory it's not illegal to sell the box and dish. It's just illegal to use it.

The box is simply a receiver.. And of course no those bits of circuitry are not controlled / illegal items.

Using the box to decrypt a signal would be a copyright infringement. Its at the very least unethical, if it is actually unlawful depends on the jurisdiction you are in. My understanding is true has a monopoly in thailand and selling ANY alternative satellite system, paid for or not, is illegal in the sense that it breaks the True monopoly license.

Its no shock to anyone to know that Thai cable TV companies often plunder satellite feeds and channels and rebroadcast them for a profit. I remember Phuket cable seeing 'please insert smartcard' or 'smartcard error' multiple times.. When the SA feeds changed the footprint to assist in restricting piracy Phuket cable suddenly lost the channels. So it doesnt seem illegal enough to stop thai corporations from doing it and reselling for profits.

Thanks for clearing that up. A friend of mine left Thailand last week and gave me his equipment. I have Truevisions so have no use for it, so wanted to sell it on. Just wanted to make sure I was OK to sell it.
