I know it is quite an old post but has anyone a photographer name to share ?

Better if based in Karon, I just need 8-10 photos of a construction site to see the building progress.

anyone willing to work for free is not worth the time and what is wrong with the profession of being a photographer ( along with free contests)

Just my $.05 worth

A common misunderstanding. Working without proper workpermit is illegal, whethrr you charge money for the work is immaterial.

agree; charging $$ has nothing to do with it.

Plenty of photographers will "work for free" worldwide.
thinking that is how one starts an gets his name out, So when one a working Photographer asks for reasonable $$ we cant get it.

working with out a work permit is illegal

Who cares if it's illegal.

Just take a few pics quickly before the thaivisa informants inform the authorities.

That's a different proposition.

But saying 'I can't charge money for it because that would be illegal' is simply not true. The money has nothing to do with it.

Slightly O/T, but a friend of mine that has a work permit and a company for doing photography got pinched at Wat Chalong and coughed up 50K as his listed place of work was not Wat Chalong and was their to photograph an event, so these guys can be real pricks if they need cash. This is a long time expat resident here.

I presume that was Chalong Police and not immigration or tourist police?

Chalong police are really active at the moment. Less tourists around and more and more people are working legally, so they have to squeeze more money out of less.

"Squeezing more out of less" is one thing - my concern is when the day comes that they start to "squeeze something out of nothing."

I assumed that if it were for free then it would be considered a hobby. I guess it wouldn't make any difference to the Thai police anyway and by law, the photographer is in the wrong anyway. The Russians have reported quite a few cases where photographers have been arrested mid shoot. It seems to have started in early December 2013 and the fine is hefty (30K minimum).
