Thaksin Ends Visit, U.S. On Defensive

It simply has to be another 'slip-of-the-memory' or 'honest mistake', as under-$1-million would mean he's poorer, than most of his MPs/Cabinet/maids/gardeners ! blink.png

How could he pay for all those Korean-pumps, if he were this poor ? wink.png

Perhaps he meant to say under-$1-Billion, in his own name, and excluding BVI/other-offshore bank-accounts or African diamond-mines ? rolleyes.gif

There seems to be a few misleading statements being made re Thaksin and being able to visit every / most countries apart from his own.

He has never been stopped in any way from coming back to Thailand and can return anytime he wishes to do so.

The initial reason he does not choose to do so is because of the 2 year sentence he was given

( acccording to law by respected judges and in line with constitutional laws of many years )

However that,s only the starter.

He is more concerned about the many other charges awaiting his most welcomed return and Thaksin will be well aware that he will be looking at more jail time as and when he goes before the courts.

His lawyers will have gone to great lengths to find loopholes and also assess his chances of being found not guilty and have not been able to find any assurances for him not getting additional jail time, nor indeed having his first conviction LAWFULLY overturned .

He would have everyone not only in Thailand but globally believe he is being hounded via political injustices and interference.

Typical Thaksin trying to gleen sympathetic understanding and just one of the many devious weapons from his toolbox of " self only first " being unjustly treated one of them ect. ect.............

It has nothing to do with your many unlawful indescretions has it then Thaksin. ?

Wrong, it has everything to do with them. and that is why you will not come back freely as you can choose to do anytime.

Unless of course you can enforce your immunity, courteousy of your unprincipled coherts in government and bribed supporters who are doing your bidding.

This is why you need a complete whitewash of all your questionable activities while serving as CEO / Premier of Thailand.

Just another example of America's duplicity. It's ok for a convicted criminal to visit the US, but they will use all kinds of illegal pressure on UK and Sweeden to harass Asange.

I have not troble with "real politik", that's just the way of life. But when americans strut around the world and lecture other countries about human rights, press freedoms, and the rule of law it's the height of hypocracy. I don't have much love for China but i applaud when they tell the US to sit down and shut up. And since China is the largest single US creditor and the new rising super-power their words carry more and more weight.

It's time for the US bully to learn the lesson.

Sheer stupidity. Also, we have China's money and without us China's Yuan would appreciate so rapidly that their entire economy would implode and the demand for their exports would all but vanish overnight. US could also keep 3.2 trillion of China's government money and perhaps another trillion of of it's private money if China stepped out of line. I think the term would be US has made China it's little biotch from an economic perspective and we keep them afloat and their goods cheap because other economies, such as Thailand, depend upon cheap China imports.

My Willy is bigger than a chinaman's so there

What great nation do you represent? Sent anyone to the moon lately? This is offensive and cannot even spell. Shows intellect behind comments that attack all Americans who send aid to every disaster around the world. That wonderful communist country of China has a few problems of its own over the years.

Yeah, but what has the US done lately, besides f#$k with sovereign nations for decades based on political and financial gains. No, the US used to be respected around the world for the good it did, but no longer. Today, the US is known more for it's hypocritical foreign policy and the joke which is the Washington elites who can't find their ass with both hands, much less run a country. Oh, BTW, I'm an American too so don't bring up "you would all be speaking German if it weren't for US saving your ass" diatribe.

I've heard Obama described as both a Nazi and a Muslim this week and heard allegations that he arranged for the recent spate of shootings to bring the gun laws under control.

Never a dull moment!

It's not at all unusual for news organizations to report on what's being speculated ... that too is news. However, the press should well stipulate that it is indeed speculation ... which this article did (as you quoted yourself).

The speculation is not without basis.

Thaksin ended the Great American Flop Tour 2012 nearly a week early and unceremoniously.

Also, the tour ended when the stronger protestations (eg. not maintaining a low profile) occurred.

He is in a hurry back home, has some "photoshop"ing to do.cheesy.gif

That could explain why we've never seen a Thaksin/Kissinger photo yet or even Thaksin with any other ViP's that Thaksin's biography author Plate unsubstantiated claims he met.

That's not the case at all. He was photographed sitting on a bench having a cuddle with one if the worlds best known characters.

Actually it goes beyond that.We haven't seen even one detailed report from a respected news outlet, whether Thai (okay a contradiction in terms)) or - more importantly - international, dealing with Thaksin's US trip.We have seen a great deal of predictable nonsense on this forum from the usual suspects about Thaksin scuttling around seedy Thai "eateries" etc, reports of PAD demonstrators (that part was true), the usual hysterical ranting on the Thai social media by middle class Sino Thai urbanites. As previously noted the whole visit seems to have been a non event. If Thaksin had suggested in advance he was to be received in the White House and honoured with a ticker tape parade in NY then the slightly comical low key intinerary could have been rightly mocked.Only problem is that no such claim was ever made. For me the most interesting aspect of this episode was the porky little terrorist Kasit calling for the suspension of diplomatic relations between the US and Thailand. That's the crazed mindset one is dealing with at the top of the Thaksinophobe heap so one shouldn't be too surprised at the obsessive silliness of those lower down the anthill.

The claim was made that he was to meet American politicians and American business people. The inference was there from the beginning that he was to meet movers and shakers of some level above that which was repeatedly demonstrated throughout. None of what was announced happened. Not even the announced time schedule of two weeks was adhered to.

It was an unmitigated disaster, no matter how much you wish to divert it to someone else or downplay the absurdities or try to misdirect away from what his stated intentions and plans were. That the usual suspect apologists are so evident on the thread is not surprising.

At the end of the abbreviated journey, it was all his baby and it turned out still-born.

These points have already been dealt with and easily repudiated.Give it a rest please.

More to the point I had not realised the sheer craziness of some of the extreme Thaksinophobes on the social media which has been revealed by the granting of a US visa to Thaksin. One Facebook entry shows a detailed blood drenched representation of the American Ambassador's decapitated head with eyes gouged out.It is too graphic to show on the forum but for serious enquirers (I will be the sole judge of that) I will if asked provide a link by pm.Needless to say as one of the "velly educate people" the English description is incorrect.Criticism of Thaksin is of course legitimate and often deserved but as we have seen obsession destroys balance and truth.Among the many decent critics of Thaksin there are some truly deranged and unpleasant people.

I can understand your urgency to dismiss the reality of the public relations nightmare, but what points were dealt with and repudiated? The meeting with American politicians? The meeting with American business people? The two week length? Who were all the "VIP's" he met according the article that you posted.... the one written by his personal author? None of those realities have been dealt with, let alone "easily repudiated". That's just comical of you to say so. It's not far off from Noppadon's statement that it went swimmingly well. Or that of his personal confidant that you referenced scribbling. "it has been smooth going here in the U.S."

What a joke. Give your apologies and misdirection a rest please.

I suggest we end this exchange.I agreed with you that Thaksin's tour to the US didn't amount to much so that's common ground.I think however your very strong preoccupation with the subject matter acts as a distorting lens.We will never agree about that and I suggest forum readers make up their own minds.

Incidentally when I refered to the more unpleasant Thaksinophobes with their photo shopped hate pictures, I was not referring to anyone on the forum - though perhaps one should be a little careful about one's comrades in arms.

Ha..ha..ha..you guys are really cute! You have made up your mind to dislike him. What else to say? All I can say is: living in Thailand still beats living in Singapore anytime. Thai Government with all its flaws at least are not just one party and totally corrupted; unlike Singapore. At least the Thai government protects its own citizens with giving jobs priority. Singapore is the other way round, jobs priority is given to farangs first not their own citizens. Maybe you guys can consider moving to Singapore.

I presume out of some sort of need to try and vindicate the veracity and strength of their opinion, i often find this question gets misleadingly answered with a number that actually refers to however many years it is they have been coming here. I assume you not to be one of those insecure fellows jayboy; when you say you have lived here 30 years, you mean precisely that, right?

It's so easy to ingratiate oneself in these threads. Down with Thaksin! Down with the U.S.!

But, at the risk of doing the opposite, I have a couple of questions.

1. What real (not imagined) horrors has Thaksin directly inflicted on expats living in Thailand?

2. Am I the only one that gets disgusted when expats bad-mouth their own country?

Suggestion of this question seems to be that unless somebody personally inflicts something bad directly on you, you harbour no bad feelings towards them. How bizarre.

2. Am I the only one that gets disgusted when expats bad-mouth their own country?

If the bad mouthing is warranted, what do you have to be disgusted about?

I'm not sure what you mean in question 1. I don't believe one has to be a Thai in order to like or dislike Mr Thaksin, for the same reason, one does not have to be American to like or dislike President Obama.

People draw their conclusion from the actions of leaders and on a personal basis I do not like some, or most, of the things that Thaksin has done.

I don't necessarily think that Thaksin has inflicted horrors on anyone, except perhaps the dead and survivors from the war on drugs from some years ago.

He isn't inherently an evil man, just very delusional.

I respect honorable people because they have earned respect. Mr Thaksin is not there yet.

As for people that bad mouth their country of origin, I agree with you, it always seems odd, but people are entitled to their own opinion as long as it harms no one else.

I support the notion that number of years here is not always a good indicator of local knowledge, customs, etc etc.

You can quite easily be well-informed about Thai issues without having to live in Thailand, i agree, but living here can help provide the impetus and motivation to read and take-in Thai related stories, both past and present. Personally, if i hadn't been living here so long, if i had been living elsewhere, my interest in Thai affairs, particularly those of a political nature, would have dimmed i think, because let's face it, it is for the most part a very frustrating and depressing business, and if i could step out of it so to speak, i would, but being politically-minded, and living here, i don't feel i have that choice.
