I am British and have recently entered Thailand on the last entry of a triple entry tourist visa. Is it possible to change my tourist visa to a non immigrant visa in Thailand or do I need to go to another country or back to the UK to get a non immigrant visa?

The marriage extension requires B400,000 in a Thai bank for two months or B40,000/month income. Is a combination of these acceptable (say B200,000 in the bank and B20,000/month income) or must I have one or the other?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

You must have one or the other and you would need to have the financials to change to non immigrant visa inside Thailand as it is only done in the extension of stay process (but the 400k would not need to have been in account 2 months for the visa).

You can not combine income money in the bank for an extension.

Yes you can convert a tourist visa to non-o visa at immigration for an extension based upon marriage.

You will need to show the income or having the 400K baht in the bank but it does not have to be in the bank for 60 days.

May I extend this topic a bit? I am coming to the LOS next month on a double entry Tourist visa. I plan to marry my fiance' soon afterwards. May I then, of course with proper documentation, convert the Tourist to a Non-O IN Thailand, or must I make a visa run? If it can be done within Thailand, can it be done at a district Immigration office, or the main office in Bangkok?

To convert to a Non O Visa it would probably have to be done in Bangkok as not many local offices will do it.

As said earlier it is part of the process of applying for a 12 month extension and you will need the money in the bank or income.

Learn something new here every day.

So then, the combination method of income & savings is only allowed with retirement visa

but not with marriage based extensions?

Thank You

A quick update. I gathered all my papers together today and went to Chonburi immigration in Jomtien. Filled out the TM7 and was given a ticket for desk 1. The guy behind the desk had a cursory look over my documents and asked for my bank details. I gave him my passbook, he said I needed to have the money in the bank for 2 months prior to application for the visa. I was given a list of requirements (attached below) he then told me to go to desk 5. I explained to the woman behind the desk what I was trying to achieve and was told I had to go to Chaengwattana in Bangkok. As far as I could understand this was to get the non immigrant visa, I would then have to apply for a marriage extension in Jomtien. All in all not a successful day.

Could anyone point me towards the official documentation or web page or for this please.

Can't get attachments to work, will try again later.

They will not do the conversion for marriage (as is true at most locations) so you must do that part in Bangkok at Chiang Watanna. You must have a non immigrant visa entry to do the extension of stay. And for that you use a TM.86 to change a tourist visa and pay 2,000 baht fee. Same financials but no seasoning required. Same marriage paperwork. Two months after you obtain this visa you can visit Jomtien with the TM.7 and new proof of financial documents (seasoned) to apply for the one year extension of stay.
