BREAKING NEWS British lawyer latest to fall in Laos alcohol poisoning tragedy
A few years ago our bar in Bangkok was offered bootleg spirits. We always refused but many didn't. Spirits in bars everywhere in this part of the world may be fake, you have no idea what could be in there. Drink beer that you open yourself, no money to be made in faking beer. Last month myself and the family were in Vang Vieng, Luang Prabang and Vientiane. Lovely place but corruption exists and bars can make a big profit with mixers and fake spirits. So sad for the girls who just were there for the thrills in Laos and had a drink laced with poison. Beware it could happen anywhere in this part of the world. It would be nice if those responsible were severely punished. Lives taken away from them before they barely got going. RIP. -

Visa on Arrival refused - what is the best way to re-enter Thailand?
You do know that you have to have reasonable grounds and/or an attachment to the country where you are applying if it is not your country of nationality. It's not just simple and straightforward that you can apply to any country you choose in the region as long as it is outside Thailand. I read that somewhere when I was looking, as I intend to apply in Cambodia early next year, but I do have an address, a visa, and do banking business in Cambodia. See above. How rigorous they will enforce is a matter for them, but we know different Embassies and Consuls will have their own rules. I can see very soon if people keep applying for DTV based on these scenarios, there will be a big change in the application process and new rules will be brought in. I mean, this means guys are just living here on tourist visas and now trying to move that lifestyle to the DTV. -

Compatible Laptop for Linux Mint 22 (Wilma)
Thanks for that. I know that Dell are supposed to be OK with Linux so something like an XPS15 is a possibility that I'll look at. Lenovo, at one time, used to be good for Linux but, allegedly, their IdeaPads now all come with Windows pre-installed and it is, allegedly, not possible to turn off secure boot so installing Linux may be impossible without flashing the BIOS/UEFI - if there is an updated BIOS available. Lenovo ThinkPads are probably mostly OK - certainly with Ubuntu so probably also with Mint but there doesn't seem to be any guarantee of full compatibility. There is a warning on the Lenovo website that pre-installed versions of Ubuntu may not work perfectly, or at all. Sounds worrying! The Lenovo site has a chat facility and I've used that - but still no definitive answer. I'll take a look at the links that you provided. Thanks again. -

Angela Rayner's Housing Plan 'more difficult than we expected'
Sorry but I think you are very misguided. Liebour will not be building homes for tory voters to buy they will mostly probably be building homes for low earners, unemployed and migrants to live in. Any liebour plan to build homes should have the important figure of the estimated amount of benefit claimers that will live in these homes. They are in fact building homes that they will probably have to pay out rent indefinitely to themselves on ! -

Equalities Watchdog Criticizes Reeves Over Insufficient National Insurance Raid Assessment
Good to see The Guardian trying to justify her lies on her CV. Nothing like a bit of whataboutism. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/nov/21/rachel-reeves-bank-england-cv-chancellor
