Hiv Infected Nursing Students Get Backing: Thailand

Hospitals are able to decide on their policies. I can see the punch line on an hospital ad though: "All our nurses are tested and HIV free". I imagine that'd be quite effective, too.

That would be a very, very offensive advert especially to HIV patients.

Why? It would just be a statement of fact. No different than the girly/boy gogo's advertising.

HIV is a disease. That's all any stigma has been applied by others. But we now know that pretty much any social group can become infected (unless you live alone in a cave on top of a mountain and never interact with other people )

You go to the hospital to be treated. You don't go to the hospital to have sex with the medical staff. Comparing a hospital to a go go bar is a non starter.

You can ONLY catch HIV from having sex.... really?

Oh. And was referring to statements of fact.

Anyway, speaking of facts:

In the 15 years since these policies were put in place, the limited ways in which HIV transmission is a genuine risk, and the absence of such risk to health care patients, has been solidly confirmed.

You actually have to have a blood test for syphalis now, to get a work permit in Thailand!!

You can't blame them considering USA has the highest rate of STD's in the world and Germany the highest rate of syphilis in Europe.

I don't know where you got your incidence of STIs but I suggest you consult with the WHO numbers. North America incidence is still 1/10 the incidence in sub saharan Africa and 1/14 the incidence in south/SE Asia.

Apologies, I meant industrialised world where U.S. still has the highest rates of STDs, with rates that are 50-100 times higher than other industrialized nations.wai.gif

Yeah. But I don't doubt they'd use it. Political correctness here isn't an issue if there's cash to be made.

How very silly. How often would you suggest that tests are carried out? Daily? Because of the nature of the virus NOBODY can be mathematically certain that they are not HIV positive unless they refrain from all sorts of sexual practice and injecting themselves or being injected with drugs, saline or blood products. Should, in the unlikely event that a hospital make such a claim, it would be as false as some of the qualifications of the doctors they employ.
