edwardandtubs Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 In the past my work permit has gone through with a medical certificate with all the boxes ticked (including syphilis). However, my usual clinic on Sukhumvit 77 has turned into a dentist. I went to one nearby and they insisted on a blood test. Then I went to the one on Sukhumvit 11 and was told the same thing. I don't want into get involved in a debate about whether a blood test is required or not. I know a lot of people say it is but my experience is that it isn't, as long as the medical certificate confirms that you're free of all the listed diseases. So, does anyone know a clinic in Bangkok where they'll tick all the boxes without doing the blood test?
bino Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 How would they know if you are free of the listed diseases if you don't do the blood test? To be in compliance with the letter of the law, it is indeed required. Why do you object so strenuously to doing it?
edwardandtubs Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 I'd rather just stick to the topic, but tertiary syphilis has symptoms which would be obvious from an examination. Without those symptoms, your syphilis has not yet entered the tertiary stage so there's no need for a blood test. There's nothing in the letter of the law that says otherwise. The whole blood test thing is either a scam or just ignorance of basic medical facts, so yes I do object to that. The important thing is though, the Bangkok Labour Office accepts a medical certificate that has all the right boxes ticked, regardless of whether or not there was a blood test, so does anyone know a clinic where I can get one?
Nowhereman60 Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 I'm sure if you pay more money you will find a doctor who will sign the medical certificate. You shouldn't need to look at hard, just show some money.
bino Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 So - you want to hide the fact that "your syphilis has not yet entered the tertiary stage" ? Like Nowhereman says - show them enough money (substantially more than they would earn legitimately by doing the blood test) and you will find some bent doctor who will sign your form.
Satcommlee Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 The Labour department recently told our Work Permit guy that they now only accept certificates from Hospitals (preferably Government) but will also accept from reputable large hospitals. They know there are far too many clinics that will just stamp anything for the 100 baht.
rics21 Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Tried look for clinics willing to do sign to papers but failed. U can always get your messager/ or motorcycle taxi guy to do it for u. Sent from my XT910 using Thaivisa Connect App
kblaze Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 There is a clinic under the standard chartered building at the bts chong nonsi that does it without a blood test. However, I have used their services 3 times for work permit updates and I believe one of the times they did take blood, but the other two times, including the more recent time the old lady just looked at me and we chatted a little while about life, friendly lady. Then she gave me the form signed. Its on the ground floor of the second building, you might have a little trouble finding it.

It cost 350 baht though (no blood test), so you may as well go to Bumrungrad where they charge 450 baht and also no blood test.

This is correct. My better half works for a large outsourcing company which specialize in Work Permits, Visas etc. They ALWAYS take their clients to a Government Hospital, no other hospitals or clinics are acceptable in the strict interpretation of the law
