[Myanmar] Thailand Says Burma Refugees Could Return Soon

Featured Replies

Thailand’s National Security Council (NSC) said on Thursday that refugees from Burma who have been sheltering on Thai soil for more than two decades could return within a year, according to a report by Radio Netherlands. In a statement, the NSC quoted its secretary-general, Wichean Potephosree, who visited Naypyidaw last week, as saying that Burma “is clearing landmines along the borders, preparing to build shelters and other infrastructure… to be ready within one year.†Burma is also seeking Thai investment to employ the tens of thousands of potential returnees, the statement added.
