Chill, KRS1. No one is punching (but if we do, it will be 100% Marquis of Queensberry rules, OK?)....far too busy laughing at the image of Mr Bean on crystal meth clap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gif

I'd like to think that the catalyst for your original question was the heightened quality of posts, but I somehow doubt this will be the case now.

Dont worry, i know some of you are actually cool in person. Its when you guys run out of meth that you start to get troublesome. tongue.png

Hell, that's nothing....just wait till you see us after a nice cup of tea....we can get quite frisky.

We invented the words so we can do what we want with them.

Don't take chances on running out of meths. Keep a can of Brasso handy, in case you meet a girl you take a shine to.

Ok guys, let us all chill.

I don't think any body means to bash anyone else in this thread, and I think people are taking things the wrong way.

That's the problem with having a British sense of humour. Non-Brits think we're taking all this seriously and becoming offended. We're not. We're just taking the piss...

Well said that man!

@Submaniac, I've told you before, you're a young pup..... 55555555

@KRS1... crystal meth?...pfft... You should see us after a nice cup of tea and a fairy cake.... we can get quite frisky then.

..... I see the OP is "on an extended vacation" in the L.A. allegedly watching "old chubby men with unshaven faces walking around in drag"..... Have all our brollies and bowlers scared him off? What a bunch of jolly rascals we are.

So sorry, old boy. Do pop back for a spot of tiffin soon..

Toodle pip wink.png

Just checked the forum rules, and can't find one that says "Colonials only"..... but don't worry, no one is going to make you feel in any way inferior......unless you give us good reason... whistling.gif

Was just asking if there were more Brits than usual.

Is it normal behavior to lie and twist words around, or is it a part of being British?

edit: what the hell is a Toodle pip ?

See troll posts?

See when I start one?

I don't normally take offence at what people answer with. If I'd not wanted offended, I'd not have put up the post in the first place.

Yes, I am definately realizing this now. It's a different sense of humor than North American sensibilities, and it's hard to translate through words inpersonally typed on the internet.

There have been a few unpleasant threads lately.... no one can take the pi$$ out of the brits like the brits can, so let them take a shot. Hearts of Oak, and all that, what what??

The Royal Oak's closed, since I moved away, apparently.

Back on topic,

I felt that KRS was taking offence (based on his comment "is it normal to lie and twist" - I have trouble sleeping as well, sometimes, by the way. I suppose that post of his was probably just another cynical attempt to generate ill-feeling, rather than any actual personal opinion. I couldn't see anything in the preceding posts that could have justified the comment.

Just on the off chanve that anyone would appreciate taking the topic seriously, I don't think that there are any more British posters on now than one or two years ago. There probably is more positive British sentiment, though, thanks to the Olympics and the Royal Wedding and Andy Murray's success in the tennis and Scotland's excellent Southern Hemisphere tour. And of course, its the Superleague playoffs, and the football has started as well

If we are actually taking the topic seriously, I would agree with that sentiment...but to a point. I believe that the general number of British posters has been consistent. However, my feelings are usually the Australians historically had the largest contingent on this forum in general. Right now is the "low season" for Thai visa (and probably the low season for Australians coming on holiday to Thailand as well). So my thinking is, the Australians aren't comming on vacation now so they may not be on this board in the numbers they have been in the past.

The Australians are the ones more likely to be jotting in and out of the country since Australia is geographicallly close to Thailand. The British on the forum that are more likely to have a permanent residence in Thailand (rather than coming or going only on a short holiday.) So hence while everybody else has come and gone, the British have remained put.

And right now I think the British have the largest contingency on this forum. There never were that many North Americans (USA or Canada) in relation to the other English speaking countries. Just my unscientific thoughts if we are to take the topic seriously.

Some of the most prolific posters I have noticed are / have been British.....thebeletherer and pigeonjake are two who spring to mind. I'm sure there are many more who I should mention, but cannot think of them right now, but then, I am a relative newbie.

I think it is worth making it clear that I was not trying to lie and twist your words, KSR1.... it is a sad fact of life that many of you have not been blessed with the british sense of humour, having been born in the colonies,.... I admit that I thought the OP was a troll post, and so the answer you got was tongue in cheek.... but having cleared that up hopefully we can now all be jolly good chums.... wai.gif

Well Rob I can assure you that I don't think it was meant as a troll post or an insult by KRS1. I think it is just a misunderstanding between the American sensibilities and the British sensibilities. From American sensibilities, it was not a post trying to be offensive. And from knowing KRS1 and knowing American sensibilities...if he was trying to troll there would be no 'ambiguity' about it. :)

Thanks Subm..... that's fair enough. Certainly no offence was taken. When people p me off, I tend to say so clearly...same when I am sure they are trolling. This post has the propnsity for some fun along the way. Once a few more of the Redcoats wake up and have an early morning cuppa, it could get more lively.

Well, I'm waiting for the Aussies to wake up. THEN it will get interesting (and the Ozzies, by nature, are funny as hell).

i like the OZZIES, on australia day .

when they dress up in their national costume ,and eat porridge .

the ozzies are still talking about cricket matches from the 90's to themselves

Come on Aussies! Where are you? You gonna take this stuff?

I bet you someone reads the first few post, then replies before reading everything to this point.

The American sense of humour is not too far off from the British, imo we just take more time to get to know someone before 'shooting the shit' (takin the piss)...but when we do, we probably mess with you more than a Brit would !

Originally i asked if there were more British because there seemed to be more British idioms and phrases used lately.....eg;.... 'taking the piss'...'arse'...'in future'...'<deleted>'...'blimey'.... etc...a lot of these terms have British origins.

This should be the British reconciliation thread.

Actually yes ... and no.

Australia is a big place.

The largest Cities of Sydney and Melbourne are roughly a 10 or 10 1/2 hour direct flight to Bangkok, where's London, from memory was roughly 12 hours?

If however an Aussie called Darwin or Perth home ... much shorter flying time.

What we lack in quantity we make up for in quality. :-)

It takes a hearty soul and a lot of perseverance to pay to sit in a flying tube for 20 hours, although leaving behind the upper mid-western winter makes it much more palatable.
