The fifth session of Burma’s bicameral Parliament will begin on Oct. 18, according to statements released by the Upper and Lower Houses on state media on Wednesday. The previous session, which concluded on Sept. 7, ended with a major cabinet reshuffle widely seen as strengthening the reform efforts of President Thein Sein. In addition to the reassignment of nine ministers and resignation of two others and the auditor general, the Ministry of Industrial Development was abolished and the Ministries of Electric Power No. 1 and No. 2 were merged into a single ministry.
