A member of the Shan State Assembly has proposed calling on Burma’s government to share revenues from a Sino-Burmese oil and gas pipeline currently under construction in the state, according to the Shan Herald Agency for News. Nang Kham Aye, the state MP for Namtu Constituency No. 2, called this week for the proposal to be discussed during the legislature’s current session. The lawmaker, who made headlines in February for accusing officials of corruption in the pipeline scheme, said the state should receive five percent of the project’s earnings to compensate for losses incurred by local people.
