Ed Visa Renewal In Cm For Bkk Graduate School

Featured Replies

I am a graduate student at a top-three school in Bangkok. I moved to Chiang Mai to write my thesis. I will need to extend my ED Visa in the next 45 days one last time while I finish my research. My school is perfectly okay with me living in CM and writing for them in Bangkok.

The trouble, perhaps, is that I need to renew my ED Visa in Chiang Mai and I wonder what the CM Immigration office's reaction might be. My school has no branches outside of Bangkok, but is a well-known name.

Any thoughts, ideas, or experiences with this situation anyone?

Please, if you are stating an opinion, or repeating hearsay in your reply please be clear about that.

If you have an experience doing something like this, please state that this is the case.

Sometimes when reading responses here it can be difficult to discern whether respones are fact, opinion, or hearsay.

Thanks everyone.

A couple of years ago, quite a few ED Visas were revoked in Chiang Mai. I cannot remember if the school (CMU I think) or immigration initiated the process. Either way, ED visas were an issue for a while as immigration may have had suspicions as to whether people were studying.

This may affect your situation.

I'm going for a mix of FACT and HEARSAY on that.

If you are allowed to file thirty days early you might want to try that and if it is unacceptable you have the time to go back to Bangkok.

You apply for the extension where you live, so with proof of living in CM you can apply there. But would need full paperwork from the university and maybe a letter explaining your situation. That will incease the change of being approved. If denied, guess you would need to apply in BKK.

Contact your visa officer at your university and ask them to email you the paperwork from your university needed to extend your visa. You will not get an extension without that paperwork. If they can't email it, you will have to go back to BKK and get it in person.

Those visas were cancelled because a certain farang "Dr" had allegedly doctored visa extension papers.

See, I remember a completely different story. In my meetings with Ren, he said that a student had been caught dealing/smuggling drugs from a African nation. He insisted that CMU wanted more control over the students that are given visa. then he went on to say that CMU did not receive their full cut of the student fees.... Nothing about"a certain farang "Dr" had allegedly doctored visa extension papers"

I don't doubt those events happened as well.

Some payments certainly were diverted from the LI:

And the language institute claimed they didn't have full control over "students that are given visa"

" 3.

IUS had performed similar activities to those of Language Institute Chiang Mai University, but Language Institute Chiang Mai University did not have any involvement. In addition, IUS used Language Institute Chiang Mai University's name and logo to operate which was illegal. Chiang Mai University has already lodged this issue with legal investigators in order to prosecute the responsible offender(s)."
