United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon warned that recent Buddhist-Muslim clashes in Burma’s Arakan State should be “treated carefully because of the potential wider implications of the [Arakan] issue on the overall reform process in Myanmar as well as on other countries.†Ban made the remarks at meeting in New York on Saturday with Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, secretary general of the 57-nation Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), according to a report by AFP. Ban met earlier with Burmese President Thein Sein, who vowed to “address the long-term ramifications of†the issue.
