A Maoist leader arrested by Indian security forces in late August has told investigators that weapons found in his possession originated in Burma, according to a report by the Telegraph of India. Anil Yadav was captured on Aug. 29 with an automatic M16 rifle and light-weight bulletproof combat gear, both of which he and an aide said were procured from sources in Burma. The Jharkhand State Director General of Police G.S. Rath said the arms seizure in the city of Hazaribagh was a major breakthrough in efforts to suppress Maoist activities in the eastern Indian state neighboring Bangladesh.
