I have searched around and haven't been able to find out if there is any public transportation between Rayong and Trat.

I plan on spending a few days in Koh Samet in April and then going to Koh Chang. I could go the opposite way if I have to.

The ideal thing would be to find a boat that takes the trip, but a bus or even a taxi to hire would be okay. The guy I am taking is just visiting so the idea of standing on the side of a rural road and waiting for a few hours would not be the best for him.

Please let me know if there is a place that always has somebody to hire or if something needs to be booked in advance. I figure most places will be busy because of Songkran.

Thanks.

I've never done it but there are minibuses that run between Koh Chang and the pier for Koh Samet. All the travel shops in Koh Chang advertise it on their boards outside. These are bound to run the other way too. I'm sure you will be able to sort out from Koh Samet.

Oh, how many times do I have to repeat: tehre IS of course publ. transpo to ANY place in Thaild thats worth getting too, and not just to/fro BKK. Thats always in countries where people generally dont have cars. It however is not always very convenient or easy to use/find out.

Besides those minibuses, which MUST be prebooked [thats why all those travel-agents are there in any tourist spot, ever wondered??), the Thai way goes Like: ferry to Ban Phe=mainland, Songhthaew to rayong (may already change when reach main highway), bus To Chantaburi, change, bus to Trat, change to Songhthaew to Ferryquay, or a very few direct minibuses via ferry to on island. As you see, that minibus saves a lot of seeking out. And I still wonder why people would even change from island 1 to island 2: that sand&sea looks exactly the same

Hi, as far as I know there are regular buses from Rayong to Trat.

I believe that also Minibuses can be hired from Ban Phe to Trat/Laem Ngob.

Never done it , but should be possible . Do not worrry too much as most things become possible once you are in LOS.

BTW :Koh Chang is a much more beautiful than Koh Samet, but this is a personal opinion.
