WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) -- A private school in Washington, D.C., where the two daughters of President Barack Obama are students, was briefly evacuated on Thursday after a suspicious phone call and the discovery of an unattended bag, police and school officials said.

Sidwell Friends School evacuated buildings on its Wisconsin Avenue campus in northwest Washington, D.C. after receiving a phone call it considered to be suspicious. Obama's daughters, 11-year-old Sasha and 14-year-old Malia, are among the more than 1,100 students who attend the private Quaker school.

"Earlier this morning, Sidwell Friends received a suspicious phone call and evacuated the buildings on the Wisconsin Avenue campus," the school said in a brief statement on its website. The Metropolitan Police Department said an unattended bag was also found, but it was not clear if both incidents were linked.

"After an investigation by law enforcement, it was determined that no risk was present. Students and employees have now returned to class," the school's statement added, giving no other details. It was not known whether the suspicious phone call mentioned the president's daughters.

The U.S. Secret Service said it was monitoring the situation at the school, and Thursday's incident is believed to be the first of its kind in recent years. The school was founded in 1883 and groups students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Three granddaughters of Vice President Joe Biden also attend the school.
