3G Usb Dongle For Android Tablet?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, nice to meet you all.

I just bought a Toshiba Android Tablet and would like to connect a 3G USB dongle.

The AIS dongle I used without problem on my laptop, does not work however with my

tablet.

Any ideas, what 3G dongles (brand and model) are compatible with Android 4.0.4 ICE?

My tablet has a full size USB connector, but no dedicated SIM Card slot. Model is AT100

Thanks for any input.

I think you will need a custom kernel, drivers and some sort of UI to configure the APN.

This has been done for some tablets so in theory it should be possible, but maybe not exactly turn-key for your tablet?

Maybe probe XDA and other forums?

There are also MiFi devices, or WiFI routers which accept either a SIM or USB aircard, which can create a WiFi hotspot you could use on your tablet.

And you may be able to use Windows ICS and ad hoc networking to share the 3G connection from your aircard?

Thanks Lomatopo for your excellent response.

I don't have the means to work on the kernel, and as everything else is working perfect, rather like to keep it standard.

At home I have wifi, but while moving about, it would be nice to use the dongle in areas without internet, if possible.

One more question: Do you think, the AIS pocket wifi device would take my AIS sim card and transmit a wifi signal to my tablet while on the move, as it seem to have batteries? It is listed at Aircard.com under 3G mobile mifi for 2,250 Baht

Thanks again for you post.

Yep,

that's what the thing does.

Not sure on battery life.

I know when I use my android as a mifi device, battery goes really fast with both the 3G and wifi radio's actively working

Sent from my GT-I9001 using Thaivisa Connect App

I have a MiFi device that gives out a quite strong WiFi signal. It has a battery but also charges with a regular charger. Plug it into an outlet or use the battery and allow your device to connect via the WiFi. No setup needed. You can use up to five devices at the same time. I paid 2,700 baht for mine.

I have used it running off the battery but have no idea how long the battery charge will last. The device easily fits in your shirt pocket, it's about the size of a pack of cigarettes but about half the thickness.

Thanks Gary.

What brand of mifi device are you using? Would it work with an AIS simcard or dongle?

Thanks.
