Recommend An App For Android Phones

What are the most important apps (the ones you like and use the most) on your phone?

Please mention your phone model and OS version.

For me it's probably (actually I use quite a few apps, but let's start with):

1. Thai TV -- watch CNN, BBC, etc.,all channels at great quality.

2. Volume + -- (as a name said)

3. Font Manager -- increase font's size

4. Voice Caller ID

ThaiTV by ppclink only works for the Thai channels for me.

Out of all the English channels maybe 3 or 4 workwork (kind of, more buffering then watching, both using 3G or using wifi at home), all the rest just give "cannot connect to server"

World News Live24 works well for me for BBC, CNN, DW, Sky News. Aljazera's app is good too.

HTC Desire HD Android 4.0.3 Sense 4.0

The Vietnam version is better ....... at least the 'Tom and Jerry' channel works

It's strange... I can watch both CNNIT (international) and CNNUS (USA) most of the time and the quality of transmission is excellent. No buffering at all. The same is for the BBC. I'm in Bkk and I use WiFi.

Contact Remover Plus.. condense and tidy up your contacts.

World News Live24 is great, maybe even better than Thai TV quality wise, but it has only CNNIT (no CNNUS).

Opera Mini Next and its Speed Dial.

Another app I just manage to handle is the Spirit FM Radio by Mike Reid. It comes in two versions:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mikersmicros.fm_unlock&feature=search_result and

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mikersmicros.fm_li&feature=more_from_developer

I've struggled with it for sometime, and eventually, I went to Samsung service center and they upgraded my phone (not sure what exactly they do), but the app is working now, and working very well. I can listen FM radio everywhere, no internet connection is needed.

If you have a Dreambox you might want to take a look at DreamDroid - it allows you to stream your Dreambox signal to your Android device.

My Phone Explorer

More of a utility I guess most would say.

But very useful.

Edit: sorry I see you asked for phone & version info

There is a US-TV version as well, but last I looked the channel selection was pretty awful.

What type of Nexus device do you have?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059296

These devices will likely never be able to support FM with Spirit or any FM app: (But you never know. OG Motorola Droid was found to be FM audio capable, almost 3 years after introduction in Oct. 2009)

- Google/Asus Nexus 7 Broadcom combo chip based module FM antenna pin not connected.

- Google/Samsung Galaxy Nexus

- Google/Samsung Nexus S (crespo, herring): AT&T GT-i9020-A, T-Mobile GT-i9020-T/GT-i9023, Korean SHW-M200, Sprint CDMA 4G SPH-D720

I have the Google/Samsung Nexus Gt-I9250. I will have to do some reading......

I would recommend the following if you do not have them on your device.

1. Tapatalk

2. Whatsapp

3. Es File Explorer

4. Airdroid

5. 3g Watchdog

Phone: Google/ Samsung Nexus GT-i9250 (stock rom) 4.1.2

All free Android apps...

Second the recommendation above for WhatsApp as an instant messenger client instead of SMS or voice calls. Works via Wifi or GPRS/3G. There are other similar ones like Line, Tango, and Viber

File Expert as a kind of Windows Explorer file manager for Android.

AK Notepad as a great and easy to use Android notepad that also sync's your phone notes to the cloud via Catch.com

TuneIn Radio for international online radio broadcasts from major content providers.

GrooveIP Lite for making free voice calls to the U.S. via one's Google Voice account.

Dropbox, SugarSync, Browser for Skydrive and Box -- all Android apps that connect to your cloud storage hosts.

AP Mobile and Reuters Online for online news.

Learn Thai Phrasebook Lite (and the upgraded pay version) as handy Thai language resources for one's Android phone.

^Google Translate as a Thai language resource (Free).

And Google Reader for News and other feeds (Free).

As best as I can tell from the Google Play store, this app is useable by all Samsung Galaxy devices....

But the info seems to suggest for all other devices, root user status is required.

- ROOT NOT REQUIRED FOR SAMSUNG GALAXY DEVICES

Yet the store shows the app as compatible with both my non-rooted, non-Samsung Android smartphone and tablet.

This has been one of my gripes with Android for a long time, which is the relative lack of font sizing control options on non-rooted devices... Grrr.....
