My 12 inch Asus netbook/notebook is 2 yrs old and has always run hot, almost too hot to the touch and have read about issues with this small notebook or large netbook with dual core running hot. I try to use a portable fan to cool it down when traveling and a larger fan at home, but today it crashed on me 5 times and I'm sure due to overheating.

I tried to find a decent, free cpu temperature monitor, but couldn't find one compatible with my XP.....any suggestions and are they accurate??

and does anyone know if there is a higher powered internal fan for my little monster??

And could I have done any damage to it by overheating or is that the safety shutoff to prevent damage??

thanks in advance.....

This free utility works for me http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

But as said can only be as accurate as the sensors on your motherboard.

A safe easy way to shave a few degrees from the operating temperature is by sucking out the internal dust with a household vacuum cleaner. Hold the mouth of the vacuum hose directly on to all the vents in the laptop case while trying to make an airtight seal with your hands or a piece of cloth.

It would help a lot to get rid of the hard drive. A decent size SSD is no longer that expensive.

You might try speedfan, that is the one I have most success with readouts. Just depends on the sensors that are being used and if speedfan supports those.

Speedfan is what I used too. Mine was heating up to about 100 degree C, luckily still under warranty the shop said it was a motherboard something or rather and fixed it a few days.
