Still No Sign Of Bt16Bn As Hong Kong, Singapore Deny Freezing Funds

Oh, so you did not read the article on the other paper where it clearly states million baht, the same as the nation paper and every other online article. Nice to see you are carrying on your tradition of not letting facts get in the way of a good lie.

Actually, the other paper did say over 345 billion in its report on the 27th. Can't link to it because of the rules, but google "thailand amlo 345 billion"

If it is billion, then surely it would be more of a news story, if my vague exchange calculation is correct then that is over 11 billion dollars?

Over 14000 transactions (both ways) ... Why would anyone bother illegally transferring $1000 (in many cases, probably much less)?

Because you are less likely to draw attention transferring many smaller sums, than you are huge sums. As i said i will happily accept I am wrong, just all I have read other than that one headline, is that it was millions.

Why would you bother using illegal means to transfer money for such small amounts? $1200 average.

It is confusing with the article using both million and billion, but given the average amount for each transaction, it is very unlikely that they were talking about "millions".

The article I'm reading in front of me says Billion...

It's repeated in four other websites which have reprinted the Bangkok Post's now two articles stating Billion. With a "B". Anyone wishing to read the link, it's available by PM. Otherwise, it's simple enough to find it on your own with a simple google of spelling out the amount involved.

Nice to see your flaming continue in another ID.

If I make a perfectly valid contradiction to a posters claim, which he claims he can prove by PM, which I have requested but not had anything in reply, I am told I am flaming and accused of being an old poster returning. Considering we are commenting on the original article in this thread, which clearly states it was millions not billions, I will not desist from pulling up another poster who has form for repeatedly telling lies.

I am well aware that the HEADLINE in the other site said billions, but every other article has stated millions, which in terms of overall figures makes much more sense.

Do you think 345 million baht over 4 years makes sense when there are allegations of 16 Billion baht in a few months?

OK, the 16 Billion baht appears to be a red herring, but surely it would be a HUGE issue if over 4 years there has only been 345 million baht.

And, really, does transferring $1000 (and probably many transaction would be much less) by illegal means make much sense when you could probably do that legally and still stay under the radar?

I am really not sure, that is why i would tend to believe what the majority of articles in the news say on the matter. There was an AMLO report that charted this kind of thing from 2000-2006 and the amounts confiscated or investigated was something like 3.5 billion baht, which seems to tally in more with the million amount.

With regards only sending $1000 being low, yes it is, and without much knowledge on the banking system I can only speculate on what I know in that if i transfer rental monies to HK from Thailand through normal channels, if it goes over a relatively small amount like 300K Baht, then it is flagged by the Bank of Thailand and could possible be looked at, but again I am unsure on this illegal method of how it would work and whether this was even an option.

I do take your points, but whilst the XX mill figure does seem low, the 11 billion dollar figure seems out of this world.

It's easier than suitcases.

The who is whoever you were before smutcakes.

There is no lie involved anywhere in my post. The lie is your repeated flaming with accusations of lying.

Subsequent articles expanded the time frame and the amounts involved to 345 Billion Baht ( with a B ).

Topics in Thailand News Forum are often updated with amplifying or expanded information subsequent to the OP.

Simple googling the amount, as explained, gives you or anyone the article. So does simply looking at the other paper from three days ago. Since either of that tasking seem overly difficult for yourself, I PM'd you the direct link to the article.

Thank you for the PM- you sent me the link to one article on the other site, which I have seen. The article you sent we have already discussed. Yes the headline says Billion, but the content within the article states millions as does every other news source which reported it independently rather than just copying the other site.

Lets leave this here and wait to perhaps more info comes out if ever. I think its millions, and I think you know its millions to. I have never registered here within any other login, which could be testified by any admin who knows how to track those kind of things, so please stop implying i am.

I'm sorry, I didn't know that you were unaware that the 345,437 million baht quoted in the article is actually the same as 345 billion baht.

I had presumed most people were aware of that.

Is there a reason why this is even remotely newsworthy? What are we talkin' about here, $500 million dollars transferred out? Peanuts, when compared to the grand scheme of things. A big whoop-dee-do over nothing.

The money laundering has been expanded to a somewhat larger amount..

345 Billion Baht smuggled out of the country since 2008, indeed... it is a lengthy list beginning with

Samak Sundaravej

25th Prime Minister of Thailand

In office

29 January 2008 – 9 September 2008

and then,

Somchai Wongsawat

26th Prime Minister of Thailand

In office

18 September 2008 – 2 December 2008

and so forth,

does "and so forth" translate to abhisit vejjajiva?

The quoted post was posted earlier to clarify to a poster who seemingly was unaware of which administrations were in charge in 2008. He erroneously posted to imply it was the Democrats.

If you are unsure of the administrations subsequent to those delineated above AKA "and so forth", wikipedia can help.

you said "345 Billion Baht smuggled out of the country since 2008, indeed... it is a lengthy list beginning with"

since he was also in power in 2008 and for the longest run as PM during the time frame between then and now, i think that he should have got a mention, that's all.

i'm sure you didn't leave his name out on purpose.
