jacktrip Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 Me thinks, most places I go for food or service i am expected to pay afterwards. This makes little sense. I'm always getting up and making a second trip to pay, when I could have paid when ordering and leave at me leisure when finished. Also, paying first I don't have to worry about walking off and forgetting to pay, which I have been known to do at a bar. Very embarrassing. On the small chance i will run a tab at a food stall? Or just to prevent confusion on the price and what I ordered? Or is it some antiquated service thing where the help wants to give the appearance of a full service dumbness?
Beetlejuice Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 I don`t understand your logic? If you go to dine at a restaurant, (not talking about a fast food service establishment) for a sit down meal with waiter/waitress service, then customers usually order as they go along. For example they may decide to have or not have a dessert later on or a coffee, soft drink or an alcoholic drink before, in-between or after the meal. Are they supposed to call over the waiter for the bill or get up and pay with each item they order? And what about if they are accompanied by family and friends and any of them decide to have additional items before, in-between or after their meals? Cannot see how what you are suggesting can work? Plus I have never in my whole lifetime walked out of a restaurant forgetting to pay, or anywhere else for that matter.

tuky Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 I understand what you mean. Atleast my own perspective of what you mean. The bars where I call home give you the bill at the end. That is all well and good for the first dozen or so drinks but after that it can become a little dodgy. I got into the habit of stumbling between bars here, and quite often forgot to pay the bill. But no worries everyone knows me right? wrong, everyone knows me so well that every time I went out I found bar owners telling me I had a bill. I always paid until one day when one of the bills was for something I would never in a million years buy. Buggers knew me so well that they knew I couldn't tell the difference between a real bill or a made up bill after a big night out. I wonder how much I handed over at various places for bills that weren't real. Problem solved if you pay as you go.
jacktrip Posted November 6, 2012 Author Posted November 6, 2012 do you know what an outdoor thai food stall is? its one stop chops where im walk up ordering, seating myself and getting up 10 minutes later to pay each time. they typically specialize in one or several dishes. after you finish its common to move to another stall nearby for another dish. what country are you in?
BigJohnnyBKK Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 Yes, many people here eat at places that have a selection of items, where people hang out and order different things as the night proceeds, some restaurants are also hang-out-drinking places. This of course has nothing to do with what kind of food they serve, how fancy the place is etc. But even with the places you're talking about, I think the reasoning is the same, they want you to feel more likely to order more, and therefore keep the tab open until you're sure you're all done. It's also more efficient from their POV even if not from yours. The other issue is that at many places the lower-level staff that do most of the work aren't allowed to handle any cash, that's a job for the owner or her family members only.
yermanee Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 are you one of those geeks that eat at some "german restaurant". I really would like to know your reasoning behind this statement Yermanee

phuturatica Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 I'm quite confused by this whole topic... Maybe the OP wants to reword it a little better?!

If so, then thanks but no thanks!!! My question remains however : Is everyone that eats at a " German restaurant " supposed to be a geek ? Is the question now clear enough for you ? Yermanee

richard_smith237 Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 When someone posts a topic such as this it speaks volumes. When they become agitated and semi-aggressive with some of the responses they compound their flaws. Topic's such as this also play an excellent educational roll in helping us understand those who lacked the fortune of an education ;-)
BigJohnnyBKK Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 Intelligence isn't a fixed quantity, but can vary tremendously over one's lifetime. It's entirely possible he's received a top-notch education but has pissed it away.
