Educational Visa - How Long Can Be Prolonged

Featured Replies

Hello!

As everybody knows, ed visa works 3 months and can be prolonged each 3 months for several years. Pls, quote some rule about how long it can be prolonged? Some schools tells for 3 yeas, some - for 4 or 5.

It depends on the license that the school has been granted by the MOE. Some schools have licenses where they can offer 5 years of study and some only licenses for 3 years of study. There are also shorter programs of study that are only licensed for 3 or 6 months. So that's why some say 5 and some 3. But remember, you have to extend your permission to stay at immigration every 90 days(1900 baht) and you must provide a package from a school that shows that you are still enrolled and are attending classes. I think that there is a minimum number of hours that you have to attend each week, I've heard 4 but do not know for sure.

So, if you enroll in a course that costs 20,000 baht and is 200 hours long and you applied the 4 hour per week attendance rule, you would oly get 50 weeks (200/4 = 50) and it would cost you 20000 + visa cost + 3 extensions (1900baht each).

Thank you for the answer!

my friend and gf are on an ed visa. got the non o in KL, returned an than extended it for 1 year for 1,900 baht, ( once not every 3 months)

taking class for 1 year.

have to go to immigration every 90 for check in only.

That only seems to happen on Phuket for non university language school study - other places new 90 day extensions are all that is available.
