webfact
200 dogs saved from meat market By Digital Media NAKHON PHANOM, Nov 8 -- Some 200 dogs were rescued from a smuggling racket, found in a truck, about to cross the Mekong River to the neighbouring country of Laos. A white six-wheel truck with Sakon Nakhon registration plate was found parked near the Mekong River in Nakhon Phanom's Ban Phaeng district. Nakhon Phanom police and provincial Livestock Development Department personnel inspected the truck, finding dogs crammed into 40 cages, seven to 10 dogs per cage. The driver apparently abandoned his vehicle, and fled the scene before the authorities arrived. Local authorities believed the dogs were enroute to neighbouring countries for sale as meat for human consumption as the cold season is arriving. Dog meat is especially in demand in Vietnam during the cold season. The Thai officials vowed to apply strict measures to prevent smuggling of dogs. Those in custody were to be sent to the Nakhon Phanom Animal Quarantine Station. (MCOT online news) -- TNA 2012-11-

Popular Post loong
NAKHON PHANOM, Nov 8 -- Some 200 dogs were rescued .............................................. finding dogs crammed into 40 cages, seven to 10 dogs per cage. A lot must have been dead already. Since the last big arrest, nobody comes to our village to swap buckets etc for dogs. This has resulted in the growth of the canine population, larger and more aggressive packs. It's only a matter of time before somebody is seriously injured or killed by these animals. I have to carry a stick with me when I walk to certain areas. It is not a very nice trade, but at least it helps to control the dog population. Without it, people need to take responsibility for their animals, especially the bitches.

Popular Post Artist
Thai dogs don't like me and the feeling is mutual. I too have to carry a stick when I ride my bike around the village. I always enjoy watching the nasty little animals going on holiday in the dog truck. Properly cooked they make good eating so its a win win situation.

eladblum
This is good news. I hate that people eat my friends Then perhaps you can take care of them and feed them. They better die and feed others rather then die of starvation and diseases at the "Animal Quarantine Station" (yeah right)

Popular Post hansnl
Too many dogs start theri life as a nice fluffy plaything. When it gets older the poor animal is not fluffy any more, and will be chucked out of the house Then a new fluffy plaything is bought, spray-painted or not, and history repeats itself. Very sorry for all those poor animals, but in very many araes of the country the dog population is getting a problem. There are so many dogs running wild now that animal welfare stations, or private organisations, could never cope with the numbers. Many dogs lead an awful life, are sick, and not taken care of in any way. Maybe, just maybe, the dog population is now so huge culling might be the only solution. I hate to say this, but I could not think of any other solution. And because of the silly people taking a fluffy plaything every time, the culling gets more important. Exactly. Now the meat will go to waste. I highly doubt that they will use the humane method of putting them down too. Knife to the throat. rkidlad
The dogs here are becoming a real problem. Not far from where I live they roam around an area near a seven. They are becoming more aggressive, and I have to take a stick with me just to go and get milk. People should be able to walk in a residential area without fear of being bitten.
Popular Post dude007
We, Europeans, should not forget that during the 2nd world war there were no dogs or cats safe in any place. They all disappeared at night and popped up the next day in pots and meat stew... Nothing wrong in eating dogs. Some people eat horses, in Laos I saw squirrels as food, Japanese continue to eat the whales for scientific purposes... and somewhere on a Danish (or is it Norwegian?) island there is a yearly slaughtering of pilot whales as it also exists in Japan, but then with dolphins...

The Soi Dog folk are doing the best they can to stop this filthy trade. Check out their website and donate a little something. From the comments on this forum it seems to me that it would be a good thing if the Vietnamese could change their tastes from dog to farang. Then the bars could empty out and the girls go back to making a respectable living.
Docno
Now what are they going to do with them? I wouldn't be surprised if they vast majority of them are put-down in the end anyway. Well, I suspect whatever fate they meet in thailand, it will be better than being beaten to death at an informal slaughterhouse. In certain Asian countries (China, Korea, Vietnam), it's believed that the dog's meat will be more tasty and tender if it experiences fear during death, so death is not delivered swiftly.

WilliamTaylor
Stealing dogs out of people homes? The dogs would not get stolen if they were properly leashed or kept indoors or behind a fence when unattended.
