Day Trading The Usa Markets From Thailand

Hello,

Wondering if anyone here is day trading (or night trading) the USA stock markets from Bangkok? I'll be spending 5 months in Bangkok and would like to continue my trading activiy while I'm there.

Do you find the internet connection fast enought and reliable? Is anyone using a cable connection for trading rather than ADSL. I'm searching for an apartment and I find getting a direct phone line is not easy. I have ruled out wifi for security and connection reasons.

Any feedback is welcome. Thanks!

Bulletproof WIFI security is easy to set up (WPA2 with a strong key, and disable remote/wireless admin on the router), no need to discount it as an option. Reliability is an ongoing issue for internet connections in Thailand, you need a backup and even that won't give you 100% uptime.

Just try to find an ex-pat who wants to lease their condo for 5 months. Sure; most condos have some form of internet in this day and age.

If I was you, I'd get off the net and stop asking complicated questions to Thai people. When you ask "Does it have a line and with which Telco?"; The truthful answer might be "This building 7 years old already, PABX system broken and all people have cell phone and want DSL/Cable... All unit sold already and buyer ruined exterior of our building for their internet cable"... But they won't say that very easily (for some reason) -but you'll see it in person.

So for a new cable to be installed (which is normal for annual DSL contract), Two people must give it the OK. 1. Apartment owner and 2. Building Juristic Person. So... you being a third party need another approach therefore read first sentence again or find building in-person where cables can be lashed easily! (subject to persons no.1 & 2).

Edit:, packet transit time to New York is between 290 - 350 ms. You don't need mega fast for stock-trading, do you?. I know 1Mbit is fine for Skype and on-line gaming. 99% uptime for DSL/ Cable is pretty much normal.... unless you have some unusual local problems or a submarine cable goes down ...which could happen anywhere and not only Thailand.

I trade US Options, the internet here is fine, but I do have the package for faster speeds outside Thailand. With daylight saving back on in the US it has pushed the market back to 9.30 pm and that sucks. I really do need my beauty sleep these days, the mirror suggests I have been wanting for decades. Perhaps Yanhee could help...

Thank you all for your help on this...much appreciated!

I live in Vancouver Canada so markets open at 6:30 a.m.

I'm not a morning person, so looking forward to trading at night.

You don't have to worry, trading requires nothing in term of bandwidth everything but the edge will do the job.

Not the trading itself, but day traders especially relly on a constant massive stream of real time data!

Nowadays a decent adsl connection along with.one of the 3G providers as back up should see you trading risk free (from connectivity outages that is :D )

I too want to Daytrade US Stocks while in thailand. If you rent an apartment which hasnt got broadband, is it possible to set up a broadband service if you are on a tourist visa. Dont mind paying for the 12months upfront.

You are so right, Monty. You sound like an experienced trader, or perhaps ex-trader ;-)

Simon, I'm not in Thailand yet, but I understand you can get set up for broadband by phone or cable if you are willing to pay for the setup, which could be a expensive. But that is a relative thing. If you are willing to pay for 12 months I'm sure they will find a way to make it happen.

I know friends who get ADSL contracts with just a 30-day visa waiver in their passport. I used to do it, as well, before I got a retirement visa several years ago. It seems that a copy of the passport picture page is all they need.
