My boyfriend has overstayed visa for one month, does anyone know if overstaying one month would affect the his ability to get back into the country? If you pay the 500 baht per day fine (up to 20,000 baht maximum fine), will you risk not being able to get back in?

Has anyone ever heard of someone not being allowed back into the country because of an overstay? Thanks for any advice and suggestions in advanced!

As long as he departs paying his fine it should not currently be an issue - in the future things could change but no plans of such are known.

If he departs and pays the fine at airport returning will not be a problem.

But if he was to get caught with an overstay he could be deported after paying fine and deported which can lead to black listing.

It would be best if he gets the overstay taken care of as soon as possible.

Thanks for your quick replies! Our daughter had an accident and needed to go to hospital in early November. I had a friend suggest that maybe we could take this report from the doctor and ask Phuket Immigration to extend his visa? The accident happened just 3 days after the visa expired and is one reason that he couldn't really leave. Also, we had to take daughter to hospital for follow up to take out stitches one week after her accident. Can anyone comment on if this is possible?

Not likely once on overstay, as he was. You have not mentioned but reading between the lines the child is yours without marriage and you are Thai? Without marriage he would not be father by Thai law.

An extension is possible under clause 2.25 of police order 777/2551. Download: Thai Police Order 777/2551

2.25 In the case of receiving medical treatment, attending rehabilitation, or taking care of a patient: Each permission shall be granted for no more than 90 days.

(1) Must have been confirmed and requested by a physician of the hospital providing said treatment with full explanation about the illness, period of treatment, and the physician’s opinion that the illness is an impediment to travel.

(2) In the case of taking care of a patient, the applicant must have been confirmed and requested by a physician of the hospital providing the examination and treatment or by an embassy or consulate.

I do not know if they would give both parents an extension or not but. I am sure that both would have to prove parenthood by way of a birth certificate. The hospital if it is experienced with dealing with international patients should be aware of documents required.
