PATTAYA:--Shocked by erosion rates that have doubled over the past few years, Chonburi Department of Marine and Coastal Resources officials, working under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, are drafting new plans to protect the province’s coastline.

At a Nov. 5 hearing at the Sun Beach Hotel in Najomtien, DMCR Senior Director Suthilak Rawiwan said 24 of Chonburi’s 171 kilometers of coastline have suffered erosion, with normal rates of 800 meters per year. However, since 2006, erosion has accelerated to 1.6 kilometers per year.

That sounds like a good idea, just make some agreements!! Everything will be ok, if everyone agrees that something must be done. As everyone can see, agreements really got the jet ski scam taken care of!! Need more meetings and maybe some trips to another country, to get a better perspective, and of course have a bit of a holiday too, since making agreements is such hard work.

When I was six months ago on a vacation in Pranburi I was shocked to notice that here too the authorities had to bring rocks to protect the road along the see (the beautiful beach was gone already except a few meters during low tide).

It seems that water which melted from the North and South Pole has reached also the Thai coastal line and that future investors should think of this : if you build now your dream house facing the beach where will it be in 2025?

Therefore, Chonburi has decided to rush to solve the problem by opting for integrated management of the coast by having an agreement signed by the relevant private and public agencies to draft a strategy to solve the issue together,” Suthilak said.

That had an agreement signed that says they agree to draft a strategy.... oh thank goodness.. Problem solved.
