After some previous research I got the impression it is best to know who you want to see before hand.

Who are the best general practice (and specialist) doctors as far as diagnostics, English, honesty, patience etc?

Also knowing exactly how much something is going to cost beforehand, no surprises, is preferable. What approaches work best?

You could try Dr. Oliver in Soi Day Night - he is one of only a handful of foreign Doctors who have passed the Thai exam to be able to actually practice here in Thailand.

He runs a western style Doctors clinic and dispenses medicine from his practice.

There is a clinic on Naklua road we used many times, not bad. App 1 km from the roundabout on your right.

Sadly enough Bkk/Patt hospital is sooo greedy, it's only about money, and I think they charge much more

for foreigners than Thais, so I stay away from them now.

I just did a separate post looking for a place to get a vitamin B12 injection and perhaps the clinic you mentioned would work well - I am located in Naklua and go to Best Supermarket often. Could you be more helpful regarding the location (landmarks such as a restaurant or hotel or whatever). Thanks

It's called something like Loma Karnpait clinic app. opposite Siam Comm. bank, it is open from 0900 until in the evening.

Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, as mentioned is expensive, but definitely

the choice for more serious things. Both my kids where born there,

great service for that. Many heart attack patients are very satisfied.

I've paid from 400 to 1000 Baht per visit depending on the specialty and experience of the doctor. I don't consider that unreasonable - especially if it's a critical issue.

I always go first to Dr. Iain Corness for a recommendation on which doctor to see - he's a Brit. and the liaison between expats and the hospital staff. He's always been very helpful. I think his hours are weekdays from 8am to noon - he's on the 2nd floor in the International Department at the top of the lobby escalator. He can also be reached by phone.

That seems to be a common misunderstanding. Corness told me himself that he was born and raised in England. He practiced medicine in Australia for over 30 years, thus the apparent confusion.

Ian is an Australian & as far as I am aware is NOT permitted to practise in Thailand. My expeience with him is he's a salesman & after the last couple of experiences with BPH , Never again.

So yes he is OK and better than most Thai clinic doctors but he also lacks a certain compassion patience and humility I would expect from an excellent one.

.....maybe the poster who made this original comment make another appointment with the good doctor concerned as believe there is surgery these days which can remove the stick he appears to have up his bottom, but alas I have not heard of a sense of humour transplant being availble yet...
