Non-O Versus Non-B Extensions, Money In Bank, Etc..

Featured Replies

A few questions as I approach another year in LOS.

What is the minimum amount to show in a local bank account for filing a 1-year 'marriage' extension?

How long does it have to be in the account prior to filing?

What is the minimum amount to show in a local bank account for filing a 1-year 'retirement' extension?

How long does it need to be in the account prior to filing?

The general consensus is that the retirement extension is easier to obtain and maintain due to much less paperwork and virtually same-day processing. Is this still the case? I will be filing in Udon Thani.

I currently have a Non-O extension based on marriage due for renewal in February 2013. If I chose to renew based on retirement, can the existing visa and marriage extension be used for the new retirement extension?

If I file for the extension under retirement but I subsequently chose to take up any work in Thailand, can the retirement visa/extension be 'converted' back and used to support WP application and processing? I understand that some Immigration offices will not issue a WP against a Non-O that has been issued due to marriage.

Thanks,

NL

Marriage Extension needs 400,000 baht in the bank for a period of 2 months.

Retirement Extension needs 800,000 in the bank for 2 months.

The retirement option is a little easier regarding paperwork required.

Your current permission to stay can be used for either option.

You cannot work with the retirement option but can with the marriage option.

Just revisiting this post since it appears that the the seasoned 400,000 baht OR proof of average annual income needs to be furnished and not both. Per the translation of the Police Order 777/2551;

(6) In the case of marriage to a Thai woman, the alien husband must earn an average annual income of no less than Baht 40,000 per month or must have no less than Baht 400,000 in a bank account in Thailand for the past two months to cover expenses for one year.

Before I go running off to the the British Embassy for them to certify my income letter, is that all I need for my second extension on the Non-O married to a Thai?

I note that my current Non-O Extension expires on Feb 1 so I hope that proceeding with filing for a new extension after I get back from work in KL next week isn't too late for them at Udon Thani Immigration.

Is there an 'interim' extension that I could apply for if it all goes pear-shaped when I get back from work too late or they need to see the 400k ?

I am normally on top of these things since usually I am not busy in December and January so had planned on a less frantic renewal. However, I have been hot-shotting on a few projects out of LOS as well as getting new visas for other countries and all of a sudden January is half-gone already!

" I understand that some Immigration offices will not issue a WP against a Non-O that has been issued due to marriage."

No immigration office will issue a work permit. They are issued by a different office.

"Is there an 'interim' extension that I could apply for if it all goes pear-shaped when I get back from work too late or they need to see the 400k ?"

Yes. You can get a 60 day extension for visiting your spouse.

Yes, but be aware that some Local Labour Depts will not issue or re-issue a WP against the 60 'Visiting Spouse' Extension.

Thanks Terry, my typo... I am aware that the labour office does the WP bit but good to correct me as some newbie may latch onto my post and quote it.

Also thanks for the reminder on the 60-day extension. I think one of the venerable members mentioned it when it arose in another thread of mine but couldn't find it! Maybe I need a reminder about setting a reminder!

I can see where a 'Visiting spouse' extension may not hack it as there's inconsistency in the acceptance of the Non-O itself for work if it has been issued due to having a Thai spouse. Been down that road when my Bangkok employer said that my Non-O (issued in KL based on marriage to Thai national) wasn't being accepted and I needed to get a Non-B (in the other passport) before they could proceed. The jury is out on whether the employers actually bothered to ask whatever labour office had jurisdiction since it was being filed in (north) Bangkok, or they just made the decision themselves. I would assume that there's several labour offices and Bangkok is divided up between them? Or is it just that big one near the south-end of Viphavadi-Rangsit?

But just to re post my as yet unanswered question...

Either income or bank account is required and depending on which the documentation for it - as to what other there is a long list including the wife.

You can get your income letter from UK embassy by mail.

Not sure about Udon immigration office but some will want to see back up to income letter. The best is a Thai bank book showing regular transfers into the account.

I assume you know all the other documents needed for the extension. The only one that could be new to you is the Kor Ror 2 marriage registry from the Amphoe.
