NARATHIWAT, Dec 5 - Thai Buddhist and Muslim leaders chanted prayers today, wishing His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej good health and longevity on his 85th birthday.

In Narathiwat and neighbouring Yala province, provincial governors were accompanied by government officials, businessmen and local residents in offering alms to Buddhist monks to mark the auspicious day.

People wore yellow shirts-the colour of Monday - which is HM the King's birthday.

In Narathiwat, Phra Kru Sirivaraporn, the head of groups of Buddhist monks in the provincial seat, Yi-ngor and Bajoh districts, and the abbot of Wat Kampang led the prayers among Thai Buddhists at a public park in the provincial seat-the site of. day-long celebrations.

At the conference hall of the Islamic provincial committee, Muslim religious leaders prayed with Thai Muslims in the province to wish His Majesty the King a speedy recovery and physical strength.

In Yala province, Governor Dejrat Simsiri, Islamic provincial leaders, religious leaders, civil servants, student and citizens jointly extended their good wishes to HM the King on his birthday.

Samui, Phangan still without power
