5th and 6th graders; speak no English; comprehend less.

I need a couple of games to inject into the rote. Any suggestions?

Maybe a fifteen or twenty minute game in a one hour class?

Must be fun, and playable without much instruction as, well, they don't speak English!

Simon Says is easy, and a good laugh (If you just add in some weird/crazy actions)

Thanks. Do that one already.

Alphabet game using animals for each letter. I sometimes take a soft ball into the game and throw it towards the students to answer in turn.

Could you explain a bit?

Ok. The idea of the game is to try and get the kids to pay attention. The kids being 5th - 6th graders, they should know the alphabet. Basically I have all the students stand up. I use a very soft, cotton filled ball. I will then start with "Ant for A". I will then randomly throw the ball to a student who then has to think of another animal starting with B. If they get it correct they pass or throw the ball back to me and sit down. If they can't answer they throw the ball back and stay standing up. I will then offer the same question up to the rest of the class. Because you control the ball it can be totally random who is picked so they must pay attention or the other students will laugh at them. This can work for many other subjects as well such as fruits/veg, sports, clothes, verbs, countries.......etc etc. I hope this helps but if you need anymore advice just give me a shout.

Cheers Tony
