Lemsip is just paracetemol plus pseudephedrine. There are multiple cold preparations in Thailand which contain these two drugs, usually also with an antihistamine added (in part to help offset the stimulent effect of the pseudoephedrine), or you can get pseudoephedrine and paracetemol separately if you want just those 2 ingrediants.

Unofrtunally psuedephedrine is now a controlled substance in Thailand so you'll have to see a doctor at a hospital for it; only hospital pharamcies are allwoed to dispense it.

Andrews salts are a mixture of sodium bicarbinate, citric acid, and magnesium sulphate. The first 2 are antacids and the last is a laxative. This exact formulation is not available in Thailand but you can get a wide variety of antacids (ncluding some with sodium bicarb) over the counter and separaetely you can also get magnesium sulphate. Stores like Boots and Watsons, as well as the pharmacy section of tesco Lotus, have slhelves full of these remedies.

Thanks for the reply.

Lemsip is the product I really hoped I could find having just got rid of a bad head cold. I like the psychological benefit of the hot drink as much as any actual medicinal effect.

Since pseudo-ephedrine is "controlled" would it be a problem if I were to bring a couple of boxes back with me the next time I go to UK?

Just as well I posted here and Sheryl posted her answer otherwise I may actually have gone ahead and bought some.

It's a little bit scary that something I can buy from a supermarket back home could potentially get me in serious trouble here.

Yes, and it is also a huge pain in the neck for cold sufferers throughout Thailand. Just started this year. Before that one could get these remedies in a & eleven as well as any pharmacy. Now, only a hospital. So it goes.
