Samut Prakan Immigration Office - a positive report ...

post-104736-0-86166200-1355907580_thumb.

They have erected an awning now outside ...

I had reason to drop by the Samut Prakan Immigration Office for the first time this week for an extension to my 60 Tourist Visa.

Looks exactly like that now!

For those who don't visit there often, it's a sea port office at the mouth of the Chao Phraya River.

OFFICE HOURS: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.

TIP: If you are going to Immigration Office for your 90 Day Reporting, it is best to avoid Mondays and Fridays as this is our busiest days. Other applications are fine on these days.

The reason for the positive report is that they took care of me.

There were in excess of 100 people from Myanmar queueing/scrambling outside. Maybe their agent had their passports and they were being processed ... don't know.

We just popped our heads inside the office to ask the lay of the land and a very friendly guy said in reasonable English ... just wait here. Have Passport? Photo? OK ... wait one moment please.

Well, we never did ever find out if he was a trainee, assistant, triage ... but he was darn helpfull.

Ten baht for a photocopy we didn't have ... ducked out the back.

Told all the things we needed to know then left us alone to queue.

Maybe 10 mins before sat in front of an Immigration Officer ... 10-1 he never did this type of application before ... the other men were helping him.

Uber polite ... sorry ... just 2 mins please ... just wait me please ... still he got the whole thing processed in less then 20 mins.

For the first time I wished for longer as I don't have any English TV where I'm staying and the Union between the Wallabies and the Poms was on the box ... ermm.gif

Still ... very happy with the service.

Sometimes being a Farang round these parts works to your advantage ... thumbsup.gif

I am happy to report a similar experience at Ranong Immi Office, back in April. Self (aussie, applying for first one-year 'retirement' extension) and three others (UK/US, 90-day reporting) turned up and were introduced to a room, ahead of 50+ Burmese in the queue. When we flashed our passports, yours truly given first priority (favour Australia week???).

Some difficulty when the charming, eloquent Immi officer challenged my maths on the annual statement of earning from embassy (applying for extension on the basis of money in Thai bank + embassy statement), but soon his electronic calculator substantiated my figures (monthly breakdown, ie. division by 12, is not so hard). Then the Immi officer asked me to produce a map of my lodgings (I have been ridiculed on thaivisa.com for suggesting this may happen, another story...) so I drew a mudmap***, in pencil, on reverse side of photocopy of passport.

So, don't be daunted at Immi offices, by the queues of Cambo and Burma people, being facilitated by an agent, in front of you. The refugees are only trying to make a living, we are living on the fat of the lamb with our western passports, the Immi offices will fast-track people who have their papers in order, no baksheesh required. AA

*** mudmap = diagrammatic representation [of dubious quality], typically proffered by aussie sheep farmers to direct government vets (undertaking odious regulatory tasks) to location of disease-ridden skanky livestock

Dare I ask? Is one required to do the 90-day reporting at the immigration office "responsible" for one's location, or is it possible to just go to the nearest immigration office? In my case, this one in Samut Prakarn is nearest to my home (on Srinakarin Road), but the main immigration office has jurisdiction over me.

The reason for the positive report is that they took care of me.

Over the years, the service provided at the Samut Prakarn office has effectively continuously improved ... and maybe at the same time, I just got better at preparing the required documentation. smile.png
