Hi all,

I am legally married and my contract expires in 5 months and I am getting conflicting reports on my options.

1. 400k baht in the bank and I get a 1 year visa and can stay 1 year

2. No money in bank can still get 1 year visa but need to leave every 3 months

are these 2 options correct?

Thanks

There is no such thing as a Marriage Visa.

You can apply for a Multi Entry Non Imm O Visa

This will get you unlimited entries for a year. A maximum of 90 days each stay.

Where you apply would define what financial proof you would require.

Savanakhet Laos require no money and KL Malaysia want to see 100,000 Baht in a bank.

You can apply for a 12 Month Extension of Stay at Immigration.

You would not need to leave the country but report to Immigration every 90 days.

400,000 Baht in a Thai bank or 40,000 monthly income.

This all depends on you having a Thai Wife.

For the immigration extension of stay for Thai wife you will also need a number of documents and her and have the money in your name account for two months prior to application. You can also obtain a 60 day extension with just wife and marriage proof if you need extra time.

Thanks for the info. I understand there is not a marriage visa. I was just being lazy with my typing. I ask because 2 people have told me in Penang you don't have to show money, but leave every 90 days.

This is nightmare news for me, i have just applied for a visa in Savannakhet so I do not need proof of income. I asked for a single entry so I didn't have to keep doing border runs every 3 months (my passport is filling up very quickly). But if what yoou are saying is right then I have just completed a totally useless application. Is it definate that when doing the extension IO will need to prove the money. if so does anybody know if they will change my visa at the consulate tomorrow. It is shut on Saturday so i have no chance of altering it until monday and then i don't know if they will.

just want to double check on this information.

so if you are married legally to a Thai woman

if you have 400.000 baht or an income ( either in your country or Thailand) of 40000 baht a month you can get a 12 month visa a non o visa

Is that correct ,but you have to report to the immigration every 90 days?

Is there any fees involved when you do have to report.

Also is there any other way when married to stay indefinately witha long term visa or no visa at all but a right to stay.

Thanks for any info

You wait until your original 'O' visa (valid for three months) is coming to it's end. You ring immigration ( your local immigration), they will tell you what documents to take. You go there, wait around, get f%^& d around and come back the next day with what ever they decide you have forgotten. Pay ฿1900.- plus tea money, get a year's extension. A policeman may visit you at home for an interview. You go back every 90 days. The 90 days reporting is basically so that they can know where you live and whether you are still supporting a Thai wife.

'Long term visa, right to stay' (residence permit) involves a long, long wait, a lot of money and reading and writing Thai. Forget about that for the moment.

90 day report is free of charge.

You don't get a visa, but an extension of stay for 1 year evey year.

If you work in Thailand and stay married and get yourself on a household registration you can apply for Thai nationality after 3 years.

You extend your stay for one year on basis of having a Thai wife and the financials. Cost is 1,900 baht using TM.7 form and must be done yearly and financials proven each time. If you can not then the 90 day non immigrant O visa is available and a multi entry version valid for up to one year of up to 90 days stays can be obtained but may require some form of financial proof from none to 400k depending on consulate used.
