I am in Thailand on a 60 day tourist visa which I intend to extend for another 30 days:

first question - can I extend it at anytime and if so does the extension count from the day I extend it or the date my 60 day is over?

second question - can I then exit Thailand and go to a Thai embassy and get another 60 day tourist visa and if so which is the best country to go to (locally) and how many times can I do this in one year?

You can extend it during the last 30 days of your 60 day entry.

Good advice above ... thumbsup.gif

Just added a 30 day extension to my 60 day Tourist Visa.

Just make sure the office you apply at is relevant to the area you are staying.

Was staying just outside the reach of the BTS earlier this year ... went to the main processing office and was told I was in the wrong office.

Worked out well in the end as the officials were very accommodating ... thumbsup.gif ... but I was wiser for next time.

Don't forget the 1 Passport size photo needed.

You can extend it at anytime but beware this is not a guaranty, they don't have to give you a extension but 96% of the time they do.

The extension starts the day you apply for it(at a Thai immigration office ) they will stamp the day it runs out.(suggest you go 1 day ahead of the end of the 60 days and bring passport size pictures with you each time you apply for your extension and re entry. They stamp the pics to your application form).

The day before the 30 day extension runs out you must leave the country(do a turnaround exit and entry at the boarder, this will take about 1 hour depending on how many people are in line ahead of you) upon re entry you will get a 60 day tourist visa they will stamp the expiration date I have recently did a boarder run 11-29-12,(

).

.The best country is dependent on where you are at the time. I have been going to Lao(i'm in Issan) via the Friendship bridge boarder connecting the countries..The amount of times you can do this is dependent on what country your from .I'm from the US I have a triple entry tourist visa. You should call the Thai consulate in your country for infoe on staying for a year .

The 30 day extension starts at the end of your current 60 days.

It makes no difference when you apply you will get a total of 90 days.

At the end of the 90 days you need to go to a Thai Embassy and apply for another Tourist Visa.

Usually it means applying in the morning and collecting next day in the afternoon.

There are no official limits but some Consulates impose there own limits after a while.

30 day extensions start from the end of the current permitted to stay - not from the date of application - so best to do a week or so early as you lose no time. Nor do you have to leave the day before a permitted to stay date - you are allowed to stay until midnight on that date.

forgot to add that I am a UK citizen! Looking at everybody's replies it would seem that most of you think that the extension is valid from the end date of one's visa although some think itis from the date of application - as ever confusion about Thai visas -I'll go to my local immigration office in the near future to clear up the situation and post it -I used to live here many years ago and the extension then took effect from the end of the 60 days whenever you applied for it but of course that may have changed -we'll see

Yes as ever confusion, or maybe is different Immigration Offices need/do different things ?

Friend went this week to my local Immigration 'Nonthaburi'

They needed photo copy of i.d page of passport

They needed photo copy of current Visa

They needed photo copy of Thai entry stamp

+ your Photo..

Yes 100% extension is added from the last day of permission of stay, friends went 17 days early........ also the Lady Officer pointed out the 'new' permission of stay ended the day after they had to make the boarder run for the 2nd entry of the double entry Visa..

Yes to everything he said above .The thing that gets me is if you forget to make photo copies you must go out of the office to get them. They have several copy machines in there you think they would go out of there way.
