One of the kids left a new pencil on the floor (we have no desks) when leaving the English room. The Thai "English" teacher, who prides herself on helping me, rushed outside.

"Who is peeencil, who is peeencil?"

*sigh*

Guess she got "Who's Pencil?" confused with the "Who's going to....", and since many Thai people like to stay the full word rather than the " 's " abbreviation......

At least she's trying though :) I think all of the Thai English teachers at my school, would have just asked the question in Thai, not English, so you're lucky.

maybe you heard 'whose pencil' with a Thai accent but thought you heard 'who is pencil' or maybe you didn't.

You make a good point.

I will try to see it from that perspective.

Oh, no. It was definitely three words.

--Who eeez peen-sil?--

Not that my Thai is worth a crap, but it does make it tougher on the kids.

Then again, maybe it will help them in the future, to hear the heavily Thai accented English now.

When they are talking in English with another Thai. biggrin.png

At least you understood what she meant.

A Thai colleague said to me:having gate duty: " I'm toilet." All she wanted to do was going to the toilet, I guess.

Didn't say something, just smiled, they could loose something.biggrin.png
