City Planning To Curb Rogue Pattaya Taxicabs

PATTAYA:--A conference was held at Pattaya City Hall to address the growing problem of unlicensed taxicabs operating in Pattaya. The rogue taxis, which mostly have black license plates, frequently ignore traffic laws and often block traffic to pick up and drop off passengers. Drivers also park illegally on the street while waiting for fares.

PATTAYA – December 26, 2012 [PDN]; Pattaya Deputy Mayor Mr. Ronnakit Ekasing presided over a meeting to discuss transportation issues in Pattaya. Representatives from various related sectors participated in the meeting.

There have been increasing complaints from local residents and tourists about unregistered taxicabs in Pattaya. The taxicabs have black license plates, which means that they are not legally registered with Pattaya city. Registered taxicabs have yellow license plates.

Maybe one day they will also do something about the taxi-meters not using the meters. Surely that is illegal too

They were the "residents and tourists" who were making the complaints about the competition...oh sorry, unregistered taxicabs :)

I can just imagine residents and tourist complaining about unlicensed taxi's. And why would they not follow traffic rules any more or less than anyone else here. At least we dont have any problem with tourist buses double parking or parking anywhere they please. And the baht buses always pull off to the side, when they pick up passengers!

Today, one of the huge tourist buses was making a left turn, and all the motor bikes in the right turning lane, had to move over so he could come through, what a mess!! Buses and mini buses, and taxi's, all own the road, or think they do.

Funny they never listen to the more obvious complaints from the people who actually depend on public transport: make the taxi meter system a REAL taxi meter system. Oh well. I know. Hopeless.

It was stated at the meeting that there is no way they can be apprehended or tracked because they are illegal. Are they shrouded in a cloak of invisibility when people see them breaking road rules and holding up traffic?

Methinks City Hall is a scaredy cat.

I think the jet ski scamers are also hard to apprehend, because they are illegal. All these meetings are just a waste of time, but then they probably get paid for every meeting they attend, so not completely useless.

Can anyone confirm if they have ever seen a taxicab with a black license plate in Pattaya ?

This is just another useless meeting by the city rulers, I guess thay had to get their meeting quota before year end.

These days in addition to the useless busstops since there are no buses, they are creating designated taxi stops all over the city, thereby greatly reducing parking spaces even further.

Take for example the taxi stop opposite Big C extra which is in full view of the police box there.Taxis will stop anywhere but in the designated space, thereby obstructing traffic and creating traffic jams, but the people in the policebox couldn't care less.

However don't you dare to park in the taxi stop space due to lack of other parking space.

So the only difference to registered taxis is the license plates.

That was discussed & in the press in 2001 , 2003 , 2007 & probably even more

Lets try for 2013 ................if you believe that I have a few cheap acres in Florida for sale. Visible on most Low Tides

Wonder what the timespan between planning and actually make things happen would be?

Right after the jet ski clean up.
