Plenty of "giks", though. Some guys might describe the kind of liaisons I have with them as a girlfriend/boyfriend thing but I don't since they're not exclusive - well not from my side anyway.

Seriously though, if you knew half as much about women as you do about pensions, you might just be worth listening to.

Until that comes to pass, perhaps you should leave the discussion to people who don't decide to marry their wives after one date and slot themselves into a position where - once again - they can be heaved out into the street at the drop of a hat.

Getting married after one date might not be a bad idea ...... if it works out you save a lot on dating stuff you never need , if it doesn't work out you also save a lot on dating stuff you don't need.

If you date longer both people are more polite for a little longer but thats offset by the fact that if you don't and it doesn't work out you get a divorce sooner as your added bonus

If you only date for 1 day and you keep your mouth shut your new wife won't know your really a douchebag which is only a plus if your a bigger douchebag than her.

If you only date for 1 day you wont know your wife is a douchebag until at least you get laid a few times, that would seem like a good thing.

I have noticed that a very common thread on TV and other Thailand forums is about a woman that is money hungry. She convinces her boyfriend or husband (normally an expat, aka non-Thai) to build a house, or send money, etc.There also normally seems to be a child from a former Thai "boyfriend"..

However, at some point you need to take responsibility for not using the grey matter that is inside your skull and start making better decisions. Stop complaining that you got taken, accept it as the cost of not being aware of your situation and making a bad decision.

If she treats you great, then it might be worth it to you. If the stories don't add up, or she is insulting, or disrespectful, you need to be smart enough to figure out what is going on around you. This is not rocket science, don't be a fool.

I'm not even going to read any of the thread first and just say that I totally agree with the OP (as far as it goes). And I've been saying it for many years.

I have no problems with the ending of my UK marriage, glad to be out of it and assign no blame to either party.

My only complaint is with the judge who divided the assets, and I would have received much more had my partner been a man.

Beauty is only skin deep and I guess you must be fairly young to make such a comment. Some of us older types weren't looking to marry the local beauty queen but someone who may display more intelligence and poise. People's quality is not in their looks so look beyond physical charms.

I've seen quite a few foreign guys with truly stunning girls in tow.

I appreciate that the girls could be paid escorts or something but I know a few guys personally who have women that would be described as "outstanding" by most men.

Of course, beauty is in the eye blah-blah but I've nearly fallen over when I've seen the women that some of the older fellas have called "stunning" or "beautiful". Pure 3s and 4s out of 10

I notice your observation seems to contradict those stereotypes posted by so many on this thread. More often it is said that older Farangs are always sporting some 'arm candy' hottie around Thailand.. I think your observation is more accurate. What attracts? Try first - a degree of Respect not found (in my case) in American women age 47 to 57 who have become a breed apart. And please don't jump to conclusions which seems to be the pass time on TV Forums - especially this thread.

I have had wide ranging experience attempting to date older women in the USA for the past 12 years ... (the same age group I wish to attract in Thailand). In the U.S. (at my time in life) I have tried to attract desirable women who are interested in being a companion, confidante, travel-adventure mate, helpmate, friend, 'partner in crime, road trip buddy, partner in life, lover, girlfriend, wife, etc. But what I find in older American women time after time are post menopausal ravaged types seeking to be my General Manager, list maker, decision maker and order giver who flits around with an air superiority . All the while these 'Independent' women - who otherwise claim to not need men (their rallying cry) - seem to very much to need me - but only as a potential source to patch up their failed 401K retirement plans. Having had an earlier experience in life with Thailand and Thai women, I decided to take a serious look again. Yes of course, I can find the same unsavory types of women in Thailand which I am trying to get away from in the U.S. But with some effort and yes a bit of that much TV derided ''due diligence', I find that I have a much greater chance of finding a woman who meets the criterion for which I am seeking. Please note - I am not looking for a compliant house maid... I can and do perform most domestic chores as good as - or better than most women Thai or American.. I seek what I have stated above and I have found some very good candidates in Thailand ... so I will see what happens in the coming year...

I think that's because you are not using a reasonable comparasion ...... Your using a comparison of beautifull Thai girls to other Thai girls as the sum total of the comparason ..... What you should be using as a comparasion is ...... what kind of girl could the same man be getting back home and is his Thai girl beautifull compared to that metric ...... and on that more reasonable comparasion I would say most of the Farang have much more beautifull girls than you might think.

I would say the attraction is that they can find a more beautufull women than back home , not that they expect to find a supermodel.

I'm sure you realise that some of these people could not attract ANY girl back home or at least harldy any , where here their options are far greater.

The only thing I want to know is why more people are not happy being single. It is quite easy taking care of yourself and you only have to pay for one. That is true for women as well as men. I know several of my divorced girl friends who finally went to living with another women, and not as a gay couple. Us gals just have more in common with each other than we do with men. I suspect men might be the same. About the only real reason to get married is to have children. I once wanted kids, but unbeknownst to me, my husband had been "fixed" and he didn't tell me. After a while I wisely gave up the thought of having children. It takes two to properly raise kids and unless both parents are totally committed it is not fair to the children.
