I cannot be too sure on this but fairly positive that you do not need a visa to renew your car licence.

You will require proof of address so if you are not living in the same house as previously will need to sort that out and get a letter from immigration.

A medical certificate will again be a requirement.

Then a copy of your passport.

When I applied and got my first licence I was only here as a tourist on a 3 month visa and had no problem.

Hope someone can clarify or correct what I have posted.

For 5 years renewal you officially need a non-immigrant visa.

What will happen when you're at the desk of the DLT nobody knows though, but chances are high you'll get 1 year in stead of 5.

Just doing mine, need the letter from immigration confirming your address, you can do it on a tourist visa as far as I know, but that's a different case to me, I have a yellow book and B visa, you also have 1 year after it expires to renew it, but that doesn't mean you can drive with it expired.

It's a simple process if you get there early enough in the morning, like 8am before they get busy.
