Are we racist if we laughed at what the American sheriff in "The Man With the Golden Gun" said about Thais?

I'm not repeating it here for obvious reasons, but I was surprised to see it still included when the film was screened on Thai tv.

You'd think they would've censored that, to avoid offending the Americans. It doesn't seem right to portray them as ignorant parochial bumptious prejudiced buffoons.

Does it?

Depends. If you are SAS calling for US air support in Afghanistan probably not a good idea.smile.png

Personally, I think most Americans would find the character as entertaining as the rest of us. I believe that the sheriff in question still posts on this forum. I'm surprised you don't know him

You missed your point. You were implying that Americans are, " ignorant parochial bumptious prejudiced buffoons." Save us the semantics. The tongue in cheek insults, ad infinitum are getting old.

That would be their stereotype. Most of the Americans I know don't conform to that stereotype, and the ones whom I don't know only conform to it in my imagination.

At 21 I moved to Scotland with my thick northern English accent.

Oh I remember the fun I had as the locals would shout "craic the day ya English b'stard". Happy days :)
