The Kill-A-Watt is a hand-held meter that measures energy consumption of individual electrical appliances (refrigerators, computers, clothes dryers, televisions, etc.) in the home. It's made in Taiwan and sold in USA as the Kill-A-Watt, $25.

Although the USA version is designed for 110-120V system, Wikipedia says there's a version for 220-240V as well:

Anybody know if the 220V version is available in Thailand? Tried Amorn Electronic and HomePro, no luck.

Amorn has amp-clamps, which you clip around the cable and get a reading.

A Thai electrician tells me that a clamp meter will not measure "power at the plug (outlet)" like the Kill A Watt meter does. Here's what a Kill A Watt measures:

Yes, the clamp meter only measures the current at that moment. It will not measure Kw over a time period. You can make an assumption and multiple the point current by voltage to obtain a rough idea of Kw being used, but if the current changes then the calc is meaningless.

Jaycar Australia sell Power Meters (online) @ $20 but require an adapter.

Perhaps you can find a local source of this Taiwan made eBay one: CLICKY or have someone send it to you. They don't post to Thailand.

These power consumption meters are provided free (either automatically or on asking) by most UK energy companies in the uk. Any UK friends who could send you one?

PS I hope it is not really 'Hand Held' while in use!

It's odd that these little meters (manufactured in China and Taiwan) are readily available in the UK, USA, Canada, and Australia, but not in Amazing Thailand.

Is the UK version of a Kill-A-Watt meter the best possible version for Thailand? 220-volt? 2-blade and grounded (see attached typical Thai outlet), or needs a plug adaptor? Any problem finding proper adapter? Thanks!

Yes you are quite right you would need to use adaptors to plug it in to the wall and to plug in the appliance.
