Quick Question About The Mg Dosage On Tablet Packs

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Am I right in my thinking that If a packet of tablets has the words 'Equal to' X amount of mg, then that is the combined strength of the pack, as opposed to each individual tablet?

Just want to be sure before I take them. To be more precise, I need 500mg and the pack has 10 tablets, therefore if my maths is correct each tablet is 50mg to be taken over 10 days.

Anyway if anyone reads this and can make sense of my rambling question i would appreciate your help smile.png

Difficult to give you a safe answer.

Which substance are we writing about?

Normally there should be a description or a notice with the words "each tablet contains: "...

Hi manarak,

The tablet in question is called Cobay-500, it is an antibiotic tablet. If it helps, none of the individual tablets have a number stamped of the dosage (like you would find on paracetamol).

Typical dosage of Ciprofloxacin is 500mg every 12 hours for adults.

So I think it is a safe guess to say each tablet contains 500mg of Ciprofloxacin, and your therapy is likely to be 1 tablet in the morning and 1 in the evening over 5 days, not 10 - but check that with the doc to be certain.

The mg indicated on the pack will always refer to the amount in a single tablet not the whole pack.
