Why Do I Seldom See Fat People On Bicycles?

After talking to a lot of farangs in bars the common theme is that Thais are lazy and won't walk 100 meters if they can ride a scooter. However, on my frequent rides up the steep, twisty road to Doi Sutthep in Chiang Mai I see groups of young, fit Thai men riding their bicycles up that road. I've ridden bicycles all over the countryside in Canada, but I know I wouldn't attempt that ride up Doi Sutthep. I think the elevation change is like 1000 meters over 12 kilometers. Even most tuk tuks won't ride up that mountain.

And, when I walk around the heart of the city I often see young and middle age farangs riding bicycles. Almost all are all slim and trim. I seldom see a fat person on a bicycle, and if I do they are moving very slowly. I rented a bicycle a few times but felt less safe than when on my scooter. The lack of good mirrors doesn't let you know when some vehicle or motorbike is planning on racing up behind you and then suddenly cutting you off.

the answer to the thread question not so hard...

fat people are usually lazy people and usually have the lifestyle of a couch potatoe..

you did wonder why the Thai who seem lazy and dont walk or exercise are not fat...is because they dont drink 5 litres of beer a day, eat pizza, crisps, grilled salami and cheese sandwich and bacon and eggs for breakfast every other day

It's not in a fat persons nature to ride a bicycle because,

1,They will probally need surgery to have the seat removed aftewards.

2,The exercise might interupt their eating routine.

3,They don't want to.

I quote "The lack of good mirrors doesn't let you know when some vehicle or motorbike is planning on racing up behind you and then suddenly cutting you off."

To me this means their body blocks the rear view mirror..

4. Their kankles get caught in the chain.

7, The sweat and persperation rusts the chain and gears leading to locking the crank.

8,They carn't inflate the tyres with enough pressure so they end up on the rims riding on train rails.

9, They carn't get past the noodle stall at the end of the soi without stopping for Carbs and when they return someone has stolen their Bike because they thought it was abandoned.

10. They read TV and didn't want to see a new topic posted "I SAW A FAT SLOB ON A BICYCLE THIS MORNING" and the 200 sarcastic posts that would follow!
