Before this I already had 1 ED visa that expired.

I came back to Thailand with standard 30 days tourist visa.

The letter from school that will allow me to get 1 year ED visa will be ready soon.

I will have to go abroad to any embassy. I would like to do the round trip by bus.

Once I get the ED visa in my passport, can I cross the border back by land/bus and NOT by plane, to have my ED visa stamped?

Yes, it doesn't matter how you enter Thailand.

Just need to have the visa in your passport from the embassy.... easy.
