Today we make butterfly pea flower tea (Nam Anchan)

Remove the green bracts,(it has some mild poison in it, some people could have an allergic reaction). The tea will

also taste better

after 3 - 4 min remove butterfly pea flowers, cool down, sweeten (or not) with what/how much you want,

fill it in a jug or bottles, refrigerate, enjoy cooled with a splash of lemon (turns the colour from deep blue

to purple)

Greying Thai men use it for darkening their hair too.....facepalm.gifwhistling.gif ^^^

Also a plant I now avoid having in the garden, it seeds itself everywhere, and twines over everything... extremely difficult to get rid of!!! bah.gif

Just to let you guys know, I am in the process of moving house.... hence not too much posting, lately. I have been trying to keep up with viewing each day, but that is about as far as it gets!... My main computer is still at the old house, so working off my Mac Air... which is OK but tedious with the smaller screen!! wai.gif

^Sj, you are excused.

Moving to another beach or more uphill?

The old auntie who picks the flowers in her dooryard said it's good for hair grow and eyesight. And yes, very invasive...

Beautiful photo, Goompawub.png . A lot of black and a daring amount of contrast. At the farm they're considered cat-food but I can eat plah-tuh(Indian makerel).

For the coinaisseurs: Som Pak.

All I know is this batch has been vermenting in clear water for 36 hours. I've been spending time with the people who make it traditionally. Still, they wouldn't reveal all the ingredients to prepare it properly to me....

Again.... it's an aquired taste like wine and plah-rhaa. I've grown to love it and it's a great snack while drinking beer...thumbsup.gifthumbsup.gif

^Afaik,

you take the washed vegies, put salt on them and squeeze the mix gently. Escaping water is thrown away.

Then you fill up with water you got from washing rice or, soaking Kaoniau.

Wait and enjoy.

Today we made Malva nut tea (Nam Samrong)

post-95325-14362531846819_thumb.jpg

First you have to wash, and then soak the nuts in lukewarm water

post-95325-14362533055825_thumb.jpg

30 min later...

post-95325-14362533388603_thumb.jpg

Now, you need to remove the hard skin and the kernel, only keep the gelatinous mass

post-95325-14362537132196_thumb.jpg

Here you can see the kernel

post-95325-14362537929366_thumb.jpg

post-95325-14362538082377_thumb.jpg

^ Mince the mass a little with your fingers and put in near boiling water

post-95325-14362540886314_thumb.jpg

If you are concerned about hygiene you can boil it for 30 sec and then, let it cool down.

The fruit flesh from the Malva nut stays in the tea, it gives a funny mouthfeel while drinking.

Unsweetened, it tastes quite bland, so I like to sweeten it with...

post-95325-14362550569614_thumb.jpg

Unfortunately, my canadian connection is not the fastest, so, I run out of the good stuff and have to

substitute with local honey

post-95325-14362554156476_thumb.jpg

Ready to refrigerate, to consume within 2-3 days

post-95325-14362555022446_thumb.jpg

When I first bought Malva nuts a few years ago, you could get 1 kg for 150฿, now, 500฿ is considered cheap...

Off season 1 kg can go up to 1200฿...
