Is it possible to get a re-entry permit and depart Thailand and return while the application for the second Non-O extension due to marriage is in the 30-day review period?

Thanks for that LB. My extension was filed yesterday and when I was leaving, I said that I would be in next week for a re-entry permit. The officer said not before the 30-day due-date she had just stamped in my passport. I didn't stop to debate the point as we had already been there for 2 hours getting 'er done!

The reason that was said is because most people obtain for the extension of stay period at the same time they get extension (after 30 days for Thai wife) but if you need to travel during the under review period you would have to get for that specific purpose.

Do you mean I should have applied for the re-entry permit at the same time as filing the extension? Do they need a compelling specific purpose before issuing a re-entry permit against a pending extension? I have client meetings in KL and HCMC but I also planned on visiting my mum back home in the UK as she is struggling with her ailments and NHS 'care'.

He was just offering an explanation for the response that you got when you inquired about your extension.

You can go back and apply for a single re-entry permit for the days that you are on the under consideration stamp.

After getting the extension stamp you can then get a multiple re-entry permit valid until your extension expires.

That was exactly what I was planning on doing; a single re-entry and be back in Thailand a week before the reporting date. Last year I didn't have to hop out of the country during the consideration period and got a multiple re-entry the same day they issued the 1-year extension.

Thanks for the advice and clarifications!
