shepsel
I am trying to get as much information about this mooban as I can gather--I am considering leasing a home there. 1. Internet service--which is the most reliable? 2. Pool and Facilities -- are they decent? Are there monthly passes, or is it pay as you go? 3. Security--I know there is security, but I was surprised to see that windows and doors don't have steel bars to protect potential intruders. 4. Any westerners living there?--would be nice to meet!!! jackr
1. BBB (Premier) IMO. 2. Yes, 40m pool and kids pool (not within Cholada)--50 baht, also gets you entry to sauna (mens and ladies), 100 baht for outsiders. Pay as you go, though could be a grand a month for a pass? Also tennis courts, badminton, two full-size snooker tables, crap gym. 3. Never had a problem, lots of people leave windows/gates open. 4. Guesstimate 5-10% farangs--meet em at the shop/restaurant, the pool, cycling/walking around and whatnot.
cardinalblue
You can buy a pool car for 400B - 10 times; children 200B - unless the price has gone up in the last two months? Proabbly the best security Moobaan in Chaing Mai. Must enter two gates (show ID or have car sticker)) and security is always present and will do tasks for you if you contact them. Thais use them a lot for many things....Seem to have their sh*t together! The director of security is a guy I would have hired back home for my hospital system so that is saying a lot... Probably the best run dept compared to other L & H functions... My guess is there is 10-20% living in Chonlada. Many farangs with a Thai partner (renting or owning) but their # would be less than the # of of other non-thai asians living there. It creates a nice diversity vs the homogeneous env one finds in other other nearby moobaans or in surrounding villages.. Internet no problem....some volume issues in afternoons. down time on average would be about 15-20 hours a month... Highly recommend it.... masuk
I'm about to start looking around for a decent moo baan, with pool. This place sounds nice. It would be really great if it is a 'dog free' zone. Am I being hopeful? What are the shopping facilities?
CMX
As a three year resident, I confirm the appreciations, positive, above. They're still building here and maintenence, such as street cleaning, rubbish, public lawn care, and so forth is constantly under way. Dogs are virtually all kept in gardens and one sees few running free. One can often seen many more being walked on a leash than running about free. However, small pooches that can fit through gates do take walks from time to time on their own. Nobody's mentioned the cameras, which may even be working. Getting in is far easier than leaving with something on board, say a truck. Whenever I sell something large, I have to escort it out (or make arrangements). Most larger deliveries in trucks are escorted here and someone here signs for them. There are some negatives: You see people exercising! Some run, some bike, some jog, and not a few take walks (as couples or small groups). Tiring to observe. Edited February 1, 2013 by CMX
elektrified
I wouldn't let the lack of steel bars on the doors and windows discourage you if you find someplace you like. When we first moved in to our house there were only steel bars on a couple of the windows - but we felt comfortable with the house. We had steel bars made for each and every window and door in the house and had them installed with those screws that can't be removed (easily). worgeordie
I do not understand why anyone would want to put bars on windows and doors, it must like been in prison, OK it may deter burglars, but it also stops you getting a quick exit if your house ever catches fire, and I would personally be prepared to loose what ever an intruder could carry, than have my family and I end up as toast. Just think about it regards Worgeordie

BB1955
The extra security of having bars is worth it if you sleep with the windows open . Granted hard to get out in a rush but you give some you loose some ...
scorecard
I do not understand why anyone would want to put bars on windows and doors, it must like been in prison, OK it may deter burglars, but it also stops you getting a quick exit if your house ever catches fire, and I would personally be prepared to loose what ever an intruder could carry, than have my family and I end up as toast. If you or your Thai family members have ever lived in Pattaya or Phuket, Chonburi city, Korat and many more cities / towns you would understand clearly why they want bars on doors and windows. Houses in high end luxury villages in Pattaya, even with good security, cameras, razor wire on the top of perimeter fences suffer continuous break-ins. I'm guessing Phuket is probably the same. Some years back we had a big house in a new moo baan in Chonbri city, good security set up - lots of cameras etc, fairly alert security staff. Our house had strong well manufactured and well fitted steel bars on all windows and doors, both floors and also in the ceiling cavity. All the houses surrounding us were occupied with the owners coming and going all day, our house was within 60 metres of the main guard post. Over three years we had 5 break ins, they took all TVs, DVD players, cooktop, small fridges and lots of other not so valuable items (linen, cutlery etc.). But I agree, nice to not have the need for steel bars. Edited April 30, 2013 by scorecard
Thighlander
Modern steel bars have emergency releases on them, from the inside. Here in the States, insurance companies won't insure your home without the releases.
