Wombat6
As for concerns that the prison does not have a health center to care for sick inmates and that they have to seek medical care outside and might escape, the corrections department chief voiced that he did not believe Kamnan Poh could escape as he is an old man with bad health. May as well leave the cell and prison door unlocked. He's old and sick. He's not going anywhere. Why would he ?...they will possibly give him a top floor suite in the prison with Ocean Views, a phone for ordering take aways, minibar, 50 inch plasma screen etc......you get the picture...and why is the Corrections dept Chief, the only one to have an opinion
Popular Post nattydread
approved the request by Culture Minister Sontaya Kunplome, Mr Somchai’s son, and his relatives to have Kamnan Poh transferred from Rachatan Hospital to Chonburi Central Prison. so his son who coincidentally is a minister in the govt gets him transferred to a 5* hospital room in Pattya even though hes serving 25 years for murder and is incarcerated in BKK jail where there is a hospital on site the current Prime Minister of Thailand is the sister of a former Prime Minister who upon conviction absconds out of the country and sits in on govt meetings via skype why do the thai people put up with this level of blatant corruption?
Satcommlee
I'm sure that in Chonburi prison he is not going to be writing a book about the dreadful prison conditions. In the meantime, it's a luxurious suite at the seaside Aikchol Hotel Hospital. Far better accommodations and much more liberal visitor rules, not to mention the far prettier staff. . FarangTalk
why do the thai people put up with this level of blatant corruption? Simply because it is endemic to all levels of this fuedal society. For Thais, this is normality, and they are not allowed to question it.
FarangTalk
My own plans now are to leave Thailand when my son hits 15 - he's 10 years old now. I don't want him developing a social life in a place where people get drunk & shoot their friends or take coke & kill cops with impunity. Even have the Thai wifes blessing for that Don't want my children anywhere near Thailand as regards to education or social skills. I have aspirations for them above having a sub 100 IQ and repressed emotions.

Colabamumbai
This guy will be gone in a heartbeat. The biggest building in Bang Saen is the Galaxy soapy massage place. No? The biggest business, however, is The Tides Resort. It and several other very valuable properties in Bang Saen and Pattaya, eg. Sixty Six Condominium, are run by the Godfather's daughter, Jiraporn (below), as President of Bang Saen Mahanakorn Property Company Limited. Additionally, several years back she sued the Anti-Money Laundering Commission, who seized millions from her as the receiver of ill-gotten gains from her father. She lost the case. Of all the prisons in Thailand they send him to his home province which he " ruled " for decades and where he can expect favours, extra consideration and to be treated as a VIP prisoner. He still has a lot of clout which probably helped arrange this favourable transfer and I would never suggest that his son would have assisted in any way. scorecard
Do you believe that the Hi-So still believe that Thailand has justice for all? The whole scene is totally disgusting, an affront to normal Thai people and a total disgrace that, just confirms the opinion, of many western people and their governments that the powers that be in this Country should either be locked up themselves or stuck up a banana tree.with the rest of the monkeys. After this total fiasco I am totally surprised if any judge could even consider sending any normal Thai person to prison again!! I really believe that the so called Hi-So of are nothing more than a rotten pimple on the ass**le of society! Where's the link to Hi-So, please share. Roadman
The more one reads about this sort of garbage where the mafia families are above the law, the more one acknowledges what a basket case for law and order the country is. As Thailand grows richer the profit that these lot are creaming off the country is ever increasing. It does not matter who they are..Pheu Thai, Dems, Elite family from any corner of the Kingdom, Police, Army... Navy...the list is endless...the corrupt scumbags are everywhere, and not only they but those in power around them allow scum like this to walk free. And what the Isaan poor in their millions will have to show for it, will be sweet stuff all. ฿500 every election year for the vote buying, ฿500 per month for the pension....It does not matter as they the grandparents are herded into the Mao stlye villages with their grandchildren offspring to gain a Thaksin indoctrine as their new Lord and Master, as they have ever only known poverty and blessings by their rulers even pre 1932..bow to your old, present and future masters. Some say the solution is in education. Which begs the question how many of these rice farmers children in the back sticks of the north of Burriam (Phuttaisong for example) will ever see a tablet or ever get to earn above a few thousand Baht a month without selling their soul. Thailand is a basket case, an extremely rich one at that with even larger opportunity for massive deals with the arrival of Asean. The Shinwatra's will be laughing all the way to the bank. They know as long as they have control over the Isaan poor they can milk Thailand for all it is worth. And excepting for another Army reset, that is not going to change for a long time to come. The Isaan vote is not only brought with Baht it is also threatingly imposed. The only hope this country has is for enough of the non violent Reds who actually wish for Isaan social revamping and honestly care about those around them, dumped the Mao style current leadership they have and remarch peacefully on any current government time after time after time. It does not require money only to motive people, and it does not require transportation costs to gridlock Bangkok weekend after weekend as there are some 7 millions Isanites eeking out their meagre or soul destroying living in Bangkok already. Unless someone among the Isaan masses can find a motivation greater then money then Thailand will stay a basket case for a long time to come. As scum like Kamnan Poh and their mafia families get richer in power, assetts and money the poor in Isaan stay poor and abused by their masters. It is an absolute travesty that a country with the wealth of Thailand pays their retired people ฿500 a month to live on while the country is creamed by a filthy rich few.
simple1
Nothing like good old non political interference from his family is there. Send him to a prison in the southern provinces and let him have the same medical care that Uncle SMS got. I ahve absolutely ZERO sympathy for him and 100% for his victim who sadly has no voice in the matter. Agree. Further, he's been convicted for arranging a cold premetidated murder but somehow his request to be transferred gets approved on the same day. Further, two days ago he was so ill, the doctors said he's suffering from multiple serious complex ailments, then the next day it's all approved to transfer him to a prison with no medical facilities, reeks to high heaven. And all of this under the directorship of the PM who leads a party platform of democracy and equal justice for all, no double standards. Even more intreging is why, after 7 years on the run, and in all of that time I have no doubt the police knew where he was, was he suddenly captured? There can be no doubt that he had strong and deep influence on the police. In years gone by it was said that the police shyed away from Chonburi province, never raided gambling dens or sex joints etc., in Pattaya and other parts of chonburi province because the man had more power than the actual police, and the police were frightened to tread on his toes. What happened, what was the catalyst to suddenly nab him? You're a long time resident in Thailand? Police and mafia work hand in hand, police are not frightened. Currently a drugs distribution network by local Thai mafia in an area in Pattaya, guess who actually protects them and arranges release if a gang member is arrested by low level police. You're correct the real question is what was the catalyst for arresting him. Pure speculation, maybe high level DSI were cut off from the cash supply chain and sought revenge. webfact
Kamnan Poh transferred to ICU after having difficulty breathing CHONBURI, 5 February 2013 (NNT) - Immediately after being transferred from Bangkok to serve his sentences in a prison in Chonburi, Kamnan Poh or Somchai Kunplome had to be taken to an intensive care unit (ICU) as he had difficulty breathing. Mr Somchai also had other conditions such as high blood pressure, pneumonia, and pulmonary edema. He passed out after he arrived at Chonburi Central Prison. Doctor said he was unable to lie on his back. Prison officials have been taking turns guarding Kamnan Poh, who is in a VIP room. Only family members are allowed to visit him. The Chonburi tycoon was transferred from Bangkok on Monday morning, escorted by commandos and police to prevent any unforeseen incident. The Supreme Court, in March 2012, sentenced him in absentia to 25 years in prison for masterminding the killing of his political rival Prayoon Sitthichoke, or Kamnan Yoon, at a wedding in March 2003. -- NNT 2013-02-
