bangkokwatto
Morning all I am currently employed by a Bangkok registered company with a 1 year non B and WP. I have been offered a new job with a Phuket company. I have been told I cannot transfer the existing documents to the Phuket firm and must cancel my WP in Bangkok first, leave the country in 24 hours and re-apply for a new 3 month Non B using the visa application documents of the new Phuket company. Is this correct? How do I cancel my WP without informing my current employer?

You would normally need a document from your employer stating the date/time when your employment ends with them, along with your WP book to cancel. Ask your local labor department to make sure. After WP is canceled you need to cancel extension of stay at immigration on the same day, or you are liable for overstay fines, and you will have to leave the very same day. You can get 7 days extension @ 1900 Baht...
monty
http://wp.doe.go.th/en/downloadform At the above link you can download the cancellation of workpermit document. It appears only you need to sign it and bring along your work permit.
bangkokwatto
Thanks, that's great. I am planning on going to the labor department on Tuesday, having my flight booked already for the Wednesday. Would the overstay be 500THB?
lopburi3
If you have an extension of stay from immigration it should be canceled the same day and you can leave the next day without any airport fine. If you are on a 90 day visa entry there would not been any requirement to leave until the stay expires.

You normally have 24 Hours to leave Thailand and you can then re-enter straight away; presumably you are flying to KL/Penang to get your new 90 Day Non 'B'Phuket Immigration normally expect to see the actual Work Permit before they issue an extension, so you will need to obtain a 90 Day Non 'B' Entry and get your new WP first. Colabamumbai
I changed jobs and provinces about 2 years ago and did not realize that I should have done the things that other posters have offered as advice and that you should do. I was on overstay to the tune of 17,000 and change. Amnat Charoen office allowed me to pay the 1,900 Baht and gave me 7 days. I was very fortunate on that ocassion, not having to pay. Good, honest advice on TVF.
